The irony is that gold is as manipulable and 'virtual' as bitcoin. Most people trading it have never owned it and never will own it, they are purely trading a synthetic instrument.

This one gets it. There was no reason for its valuation during its infancy, and there are far more beautiful items on our planet. Fluorite Quartz for example, is mesmerizing. Gold, is simply yellow metal/stones, at least, during the infancy of it's "valuation." There is a crazy book called "The Lost Book of Enki" that will have you wondering about all sorts of things we've been told by our "current" history books. It's a bit difficult to follow at first, because it's supposed to be a translation of Sumerian Tablets, so their sentence structuring and grammar is a bit strange, but you get used to it. There are many events that are described on a global level, all while from the eyes of the aliens, aka astronauts. Incredible book, even if you read it as pure fiction.
