I need to have one of my websites in English as well as foreign language targeting that foreign country. I have been contemplating what to do for a while now. I think when we have some more time we will just use 2 different domains with the same site but in each corresponding country's language. This will probably be the best method for SEO, but it's also the most annoying and expensive way.

For now, I need to make do with what I can.

Subdomain vs Subdirectory?

en.----.com/hello vs ----.com/en/hello

Any one have any tips or advice? Thanks in advance!

I am at a global tech company, we have 8 language versions of the same site. We use subdirectories with county and language codes in them (ex. /us/en/) and hreflang tags on the pages.

For my experience i think is bad to have two domains with same content even they are on different languages.
I think you should have both language versions on same website.

Thanks for your input. I think it would be a hassle to have two separate domains. I've thought about it a lot and I can name 10 sites for each type of multilanguage site url structure. I think I will just go with the default "mysite.com/language/slug".

Thank you for your input. I was seriously considering subdomains by country/language but I decided to go the same route as the one you mentioned - subdirectories. Is there are reason you use both country and language subdirectories instead of only country or only language?

I use fr.domain.com type for my streaming site. Plus all links from french sites.

Subdirectory is the easiest thing to manage, just don't mess up with hreflang

I'd go with .com (global, english) .de (country, german).
