Biggest Mistakes Beginners Make in PPC Ads?

Biggest mistake I made was targeting too broad and wasting budget. also did not track conversions properly, so had no idea what was working.

Hi everyone,
I’m new to PPC advertising and want to avoid common mistakes.

big mistake i see is people dont target right audience and just run ads broad so money gone fast, also no proper keyword research and not using negative keywords so wrong clicks come, many beginners dont test ads or landing page they just run one ad and hope it work, also no tracking setup so they dont even know what working or not, and budget also not controlled so it finish quick with no result, better start small test and optimize slowly.

My painful experience when I first started was not creating a negative keyword list, which resulted in my ads being shown to people who had no need to buy and I wasted money on meaningless clicks. Use the Search Terms Report to filter out irrelevant keywords and add them to your negative list. This helps focus your budget on truly potential customers who have a need for your product.

the biggest mistake is ignoring data and making decisions based on guesses, instead of waiting for enough clicks and conversions before optimizing.

Common mistakes include poor keyword targeting, weak landing pages, and no tracking setup.
Many also ignore search term reports, which is where most waste comes from.
Without optimization, even good campaigns lose money.

Biggest mistakes? Not doing enough keyword research, targeting too broad of an audience, and not tracking conversions properly. Also, forgetting to split test ads and landing pages can waste a lot of money. Focus on targeting the right keywords, set clear goals, and track everything to avoid wasting budget.

Hey, I’m also a beginner in PPC, so I might be wrong, but just sharing what I’ve understood so far.
I think one of the biggest mistakes is jumping in too fast without testing properly. Like spending money on platforms such as Google Ads without really knowing what audience or creatives work.
Also, I’ve seen people say targeting too broad can waste a lot of budget, since you end up getting clicks from people who aren’t really interested.

A lot of beginners spend big budgets on things they're not sure about and this is a REAL mistake.

Another one is not tracking data. I mean why would you even run ads without tracking your data? It doesnt make any sense to me tbh.

Also bad targeting ofc. If your audience is wrong even a good ad wont work.

Biggest mistakes are not targeting the right audience, ignoring negative keywords, and not tracking results. Also, beginners often set low budgets and don’t test enough. Always optimize!

Biggest mistake is beginners optimize for clicks instead of conversions.

most beginners fail in PPC because of wrong targeting, weak ads , or not tracking conversions properly, many also change things too quickly without letting campaigns collect enough data.

Biggest PPC mistake is scaling too fast without enough data—start small, track conversions, and let the numbers guide your decisions.

1. launching broad keywords without negatives
2. changing campaigns every few hours and resetting learning
3. sending paid traffic to slow trash landing pages
4. tracking setup broken but still scaling
5. testing 10 creatives with tiny budget
6. looking only at CTR instead of real conversions
7. using auto placements and forgetting to exclude junk traffic

setting broad match keywords without negatives, not tracking conversions properly, sending traffic to homepage instead of a dedicated landing page, and spending too much too fast before the algo has enough data to optimize.

from my experience most common mistakes that people generally do are target too broad an audience, ignore negative keywords, run only one ad, forget mobile users, and sometimes click their own ads wasting money and losing results.

from my experience the Biggest mistake is Running ads without understanding the target audience. Even a big budget will not work if you are showing ads to the wrong people.

Running ads without conversion tracking means you don’t know what is working now. Beginners often spend money blindly instead of optimizing.
