So I've got an adult sex toys site that I never bothered trying to submit to stumbleupon, or many other bookmarking services for that matter (folkd deletes them, I figure most don't allow adult links).

So anyways, three days ago I start getting a boost in traffic, approximately 200 UV per day. Looking at my stats I realized someone had stumbled my store.

I thought nothing of it, figured it was junk traffic and it wouldn't convert. Well -- it IS converting. So now I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what's going on.

Is it normal for stumbleupon to send 100s of visitors a day? Does it last? Does it only happen when a more "trusted" person stumbles your stuff, or can any stumbleupon result in hundreds of hits a day?

If you know the answers, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

SB can be a great traffic source

I used to get 5-10k visitors per day from SB like 2 years back

And yes the traffic is of good quality

@sensitiveheart_4, did you get your 5 to 10k by initiating it yourself?

What I'm wondering is if I go create a brand new stumble account and submit another URL ... if it'll be as successful, or ignored because my account is new.

Also wondering whether its worthwhile to build up an account so you CAN submit something new and it'll make it instantly successful.

I get a lot of that as well. Interesting how that works with stumbleupon........

I was the one who stumbledupon your store. Good to know it's converting. Send some money my way. LOL!

I've never had any success with stumbleupon. I do get a few traffic, though.

Stumbleupon is good source for my site. timely it gives 10% of traffic. But you should be active there

Stumbleupon is a great site for traffic, I am getting very good referring traffic for adult niche.

I get spikes from time to time from SB from about 3k to 5k, i never submitted anything to them, they just seem to geniunly like that particular site. I never really saw anything in particular that would make me happy about them visiting, they dont click ads, they dont buy, just freeloaders usually, the only good thing is that some of them might link if they have a private blog or page....

i get about 500-1000 extra visits a day from stumble upon, up to 5k more a day when something new is submitted. they don't click on my ads, but i have noticed that they click on my infolinks stuff.

Did you have to change ip each time? I'm thinking about creating 100 accounts and see what kind of traffic ill get lol.

There was a program which i bought to do the mass stumbles

The name of the bot was SB BOT

I dunno if it still exits

I just started getting a bunch of stumble upon traffic, and I've never submitted my url there or made an account. I think it has something to do with twitter.

I am not entirely sure how StumbleUpon works, but I know a lot of people use it. Take for example my girlfriend. She is sort of obsessive with the Stumble button on her browser. She winds up on hundreds of pages while she sits down in front of her computer. It makes sense then that you can get a lot of unique page views through this method. It's a pretty cool way to get traffic, to say the least.

From my understanding (and this could be outdated) Stumble Upon works like so:

Either you or someone else submits your URL to their network. They give you around 10 "free" visits. If people either stick around and read your content or give it a "Thumbs Up" they send even more traffic your way and continue that trend ad infinum.

As the stumble upon crowd is just hitting a button to load various webpages it's very important to have a quick loading site. If your site lags upon loading, or you have a ton of un-optimized images you'll see them bounce outta there real quick.

Why wait around for a site to load when there are literally an endless queue of sites to look at.

I use it myself at home - best way to waste 4 hours after work.

Im getting right now on my website from sig around 150 UV's from stumble daily. Mostly US traffic. Unfortunately they dont stay too long :'( :D :D.

Imagine having a website SMO'ed (social media optimized) very good. Like, facebook, twitter, reddit, stumble. Only from these websites you could get thousands of UV's daily. Maybe you cant convert that traffic easily, but at least you can earn some small cash with CPM for example. 3-4 Ad placements and few bux a day is in your pocket ;)
