After doing a backlink campaign on one of my sites I noticed that when searching my website.com name the results did not display the title but instead only the domain name. Does this mean I could be penalized?

Also when searching for my keyword it does display my sites title in SE.

Are you sure you have a proper <title> tag in the <head> tag? And that both tags are opened / closed correctly?

Even I noticed that a site in my Niche (maybe we're in the same niche, lol) was on #7 i guess and G wasn't showing the Title and Description! Just the domain name. I don't think its a sign of any Penalty.

If you were penalized you wouldn't show at all :p

Anyway this has happened to me too. But you just have to wait up to a week for it to update things and your fine.

Are you sure your Robots.txt is properly set up?

I'm not sure, but maybe you are not allowing the spider to crawl your site, therefore, all that gets indexed is your domain name.

I don't know if you are having the same issue I had, but I think it happened something similar to me in the past and it was a matter of robots.txt

(I was using Wordpress, you know that when you install it, it asks if you want to be indexed or not - that was my mistake, I chose not to. Somewhere in the options of WP though you can change it and you are good to go)

@Tcm9669 - Yes I have a correct title and the tag is set up correctly.

@cyrsss - Yes I have some duplicate Title tags and Meta descriptions.. well that's what webmaster tools is showing.

@businessbira - Now that you mention.. I went to check and found that there is no robots.txt at all..

I'll try to fix the duplicates and upload robots.txt.. we'll see what happens.

I had a similar problem with a site.

    Fixed it by changing:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /
    ..in robots.txt to:
    User-agent: *
    Allow: /

..or simply remove your robots.txt file
