Hi! Since last November there is a great fall of my website in Alexa rank in Global rank and in my country (greece). For example in a month from 140.000 in global rank we are down to 206.000 and in country level from 950 down to 23.142!!! We have daily over 7.000 unique visitors from all over the world according to the statistics of alexa. My site is a local news webpage with everyday news and articles and with a lot of visits. Other sites of the same area and with less visits are much higher in Alexa rank than my site. What could be the problem and hoe can I fix it?

Thank you!!!

How are your real stats doing? If your amount of visitors is still the same, I would not worry. If your actual amount of visitors and search engine traffic fell, that would be an alarming sign. You may need to do more link building or check if your site was penalized. Usually, a little bit of onpage SEO can do miracles, too.

Alexa rank site according to the amount of traffic they receive. If you have lost some traffic then be aware it will definitely affect your alexa ranking. Aside the traffic ranking, Alexa does not add any essential contribution to your site, better to worry about improving your traffic than alexa ranking.

First of all thank you for your answers.
There might be a small reduce to the visitors or the traffic but not so big that would explain such a big drop and make my site fall so much in my country's rank. Also I have used a script for more traffic and until now it seemed to be working fine. If my site is penalized how can I know that?
I know that Alexa does not add any essential contribution to my site but a lot of people check it and rely on that. That is why I want to have a good place in Alexa rank.
Thank you!

there's some solution to modify alexa ranking but doesn't give so much interest... lokk around in this forum i see thread some time ago

I don't think serious marketers should care about Alexa rankings.

I'm not a big fan of Fishkin, but he said that "Alexa data is slightly better than random guessing." And it's so damn true.

Check your own analytics and don't worry about what Alexa thinks :)

Hi again!
The thing is that I have tried a few solutions I found in this forum but with no results... Is there something you would recommend?
My website statistics are fine and the thing with a good position in Alexa is just a matter of prestige because as I said earlier a lot of people pay attention to that.
One thing that I hate the most is that other sites with not so many visits have a better position in Alexa!

All the people that could possibly bring any help and knowledge or value to your website know Alexa rank can be manipulated and would never ever value any site based on it. Just focus on continuing to grow your website. Wasting time and energy on this could be better spent tweaking and promoting your site.
