BHW's Take On White Hat SEO....

Obviously, I don't come here often...

What is this sub-forum's take on white hat SEO?

As I sift through the various posts I see people recommending creating spammy links on irrelevant pages, buying links from blog networks, etc... Well, none of that is white hat - not even in the least.

So before I go and start making enemies - what's the standard WH definition here? Just not using automated tools?

PS - I'm not asking for the definition of WH SEO, I'm asking for the typical point of view on this subforum before I start really posting anything that would be too far in contrast to that.

I have no problem with it, and I'm sure a few other members have the same view. Obviously it depends on your particular money making preferences.

I like to think of "Whitehat" as quality content, and mostly onsite SEO.

We do have a whole "White Hat" section, OP, so I'm sure whatever you post wil be perfectly appropriate for that area.

White hat is adhering to google (bing, yahoo, ask, aol)s guidelines.

Blackhat is the rest of the world of seo.

I thought I was until I started seeing people suggest creating spam... Not that I know ANYTHING about spam...

I don't mind White Hat SEO at all, in fact I have clients who I provide SEO that is purely white hat.

I see your point.

They think whitehat is when you don't get caught.

There is nothing called white hat. when ever you get a link it's blackhat.
Many sites in my niche consider them self white hat because they get links from niche related site by paying them $1k per post and i do same by building my own pbn. there is nothing called white hat.

Content of a forum depends upon type of members and more then 70% members here are in blackhat.So, adding a white hat seo sub-forum is just a formality. there should be "paint it white" section.

WH - Creating very high quality content that solves the issues of the target audience that they will hesitate to share and recommend to their friends & followers.

With all due respect you do not know what you are talking about.

The fact that you cannot figure out white hat is your problem.

You can get links and still be completely white hat.

Yes, I agree with Techxan in that you do not understand what WH is or what is considered WH link building.

There's a large gap between building spammy links yourself and simply telling others about something you've created on your site that they might take interest in.

Here's one quick example: If I created an amazing resource on how to port and polish small block Chevy heads I could tell forum admins about it and suggest that it might be a great page to include in any resource or FAQ pages they have on the topic.

Is that blackhat? No.
Is it going to radically increase the likelihood that links will be build to that page? Yes.
Did I buy the link? No.
Will the link have any value? Yes, it's relevant and resource pages normally carry decent pagerank.

Anyways....

ALthough this post has received hostile reactions, prab1996 is essentially correct. Google says it wants NATURAL content development, link development, and authority building on the web, not the turbo methods, WH or BH, constantly discussed on SEO forums. Under this view, optimization = spam, be it 'WH' or 'BH,' period.

SEO involves artificially improving the ranking position of webpages as per the keywords involved, beyond where they would be placed if you were not using techniques, on page or off page. If it's artificial, it's not natural. So whether one optimizes on page or off, manually or with bots, with 'quality' or with spam, it's violating the so called guidelines, and so constitutes web spam.

The truth is that 'optimization' of a web page is the opposite of the natural, organic value that page should otherwise have in the search engines. Google wants natural content and natural link development, not all the fancy unnatural tricks both WH and BH factions talk about.

Google views all artificial attempts to elevate the ranking position or authority of a site (beyond writing useful content) as web spam. So in a real sense, all SEO is 'spamming SEO' and the whole WH vs BH SEO divide is a moot issue. BHers are just more aggressive about gaming Google and using automated tools to do so, while using workarounds to deal with 'Google hits back' situations.

White hat is focusing on your website's onpage SEO, quality content and letting the backlinks build themselves. Sure, a Press Release could never hurt Or if you're often visiting a website and leaving replies, there's nothing Black Hat in completing the Website section since it's there, but if you do it on hundreds/thousands of websites, things get darker.

The white hat of today is the black of tomorrow. Just check the guidelines and make your own interpretation, to me everything is grey-ish !

I see White Hat as 'natural'. Commenting on a forum and using your name as 'keyword phrase' is Black Hat. Commenting on a forum and linking to one of your pages because it genuinely helps the readers, I'd class more as white hat.

It's something that belongs there, makes sense to be there and is helping the people who see it. So you're actually thinking about the people who see your link and you believe it'll help them.

White Hat is something in my view that has no reason to ever be frowned upon, by Google. Not even in 12 months time. If it might be frowned upon in 12 months time, the chances are it's more 'Grey Hat'.

And i made a same niche site then payed few bucks to admin to add my link near your link. how will Google distinguish your link and mine ?

Blackhat : You asked the owner to place a link and he did it.
Whitehat : you wrote good content and forum admin give you a link because you site was worth it.

We can discuss it full like and still there will be no conclusion.There is no hat in seo , all depends upon how clever and opportunist you are.
All depends upon how google views your link.

Many people think blackhat seo = spam. blackhat is daddy of spam. I not spam any site , i pay niche relate site owners and create my own pbn.

What changes the color of the hat is the ways to achieving the end rather than the end itself. Link building is hat-less, it's white when you use ethical, natural means; it's black when you use unethical, unnatural means.

Like many things, white and black are not separate entities, they overlap. They sure do in SEO, and that's wher grey-hat wins a stroke.

Real whitehat says don't lift a finger to build backlinks otherwise you are manipulating Google algo.

What you may be talking about is Greyhat SEO.

Note: This forum is dedicated to blackhat and most of all what you will see here is blackhat though there are a few people that does thing a little bit differently.
