Is there any way that there could be an official "sister" forum of BHW for the more hot topic discussions that can help inspire people with niche ideas. I was looking the past era's on BHW and in some of them the lounge orignally general chit chat you could pretty much post anything you want as long as you weren't doing flaming on someone. Then in late April 2008/May 2008 something must have happened and the rules went pretty hard on lots of different things.

I'm not debating the rules of BHW, thats why I'm suggesting maybe a sister forum. Where more heated things could be talked about without being deleted, banned etc. Since such a forum would be about things that aren't allowed on BHW, it would not be a competitor to BHW.

A forum where you can post any old crap and you're not allowed to flame stupid people? Isn't that what Warrior Forum is all about?

Because thinking and debating is crap

So many things are now considered violations of the rules compared to in the past where now certain detailed information is a violation and it appears that it may be going towards microagressions as what is not allowed to be said. That is why a sister forum may be beneficial so BHW doesn't have to worry about some possible flame war since its on another site that may choose to just go after extremism with a simple ban(not a thread or post deletion) or boot people from threads to prevent them. And that forum could have its "marketplace" link back to the one on BHW with also ad revenue on the site going to BHW.

I don't think it will happen officially to be honest - there was probably good reason why they banned those topics - makes the forum less scalable perhaps?

It would be nice though if for example JrVIP had an area where anything goes, but perhaps that stuff is reserved for jrExec/exec?

Something tells me that within 5 days Micky will register the domain and spam it.

    Hes the man. :)

Anyway, I dont think a seperate forum will happen.

Having a new section for these topics is much more do able.

That's a difficult one. Yes, it would be nice to debate political and religious topics in the lounge. There are many very, very clever people on this forum and I'd love to see their take on certain subjects.

The problem is that people get passionate and some of them are unable to separate an intellectual discussion from an emotional gut reaction. Then it gets messy and overflows into every single section of the site. So, there's a line that's been defined by previous issues.

I'm not sure what you mean by micro-aggressions but we try to strike a balance where people are able to express their opinion without alienating other people from the forum on the basis of their race/gender/orientation. If someone finds it necessary to use pejorative terms associated with a specific demographic in a debate, then I lose sympathy a little.

A platform where anything can be said to anyone as long as they weren't flaming seems unmanageable. How would you define the line between free, heated discussion and flaming? Would your definition match everyone else's?

Ultimately, it'd be defined by a clique of the loudest or most argumentative people on the forum. The problem with having a homogeneous group controlling a platform means that there's no mitigation. Without a counterweight, opinions become more extreme and spiral in on each other. Once the dissenters have gone, you end up with a toxic environment that caters to nobody except a small, extreme group.

I know this might sound like a straw man but there's studies on discrete pockets of cultural homogeneity and their proliferation across the internet. There are some very plausible correlations with violent or fundamentalist groups gaining momentum. The potential for abuse is huge. How do we link to that or call it a "sister-forum" without implicitly condoning offensive opinions.

Our common denominator is Internet Marketing. We've got the lounge to kick back and discuss unrelated topics but it must be contained so it doesn't affect the core focus of every member here.

But violent and extremism is very easy to spot out, so it would be easy to prevent such a place from getting out of hand, and if it were to get out of hand it could always be shutdown.

The ability to boot people from threads that some existing places use helps with keeping things in order.

That's a great idea - wonder if it's something we could do? Very interesting, thank you.

Its a cool plugin, but I don't think it would work for BHW at the moment to help with existing rules. Since it will putmore strain on the database. The site I've been on somewht that used it was over 100,000 Alexa ranking and it had board issues, BHW is only 1300 so you would probably get the boot lists loaded up very fast on here.

Such a thing may work well with BHW 2.0, though since its going to be more streamlined from what I heard.
