BHW Registrar Co-op

Ok, so I posted in another thread about domains and someone buying a crap ton of them. When the idea hit me for a co-op of BHW members with some fundage...we could literally provide a registrar service that is BHW member friendly and private.


So from the best I can figure...we need:


1. $$$ - initial capital (ICANN fees)
2. Multiple DNS servers- no idea how many
3. Tech staff well versed in maintaining...probably paid a salary of some sort
4. A "shit ton" of marketing
5. Panel of BHW members invested


I have some PMs with interest already...who is ready to say F.U. to SPAMHAUS and GoDaddy???




P.S. any input that is constructive would be great, as this can benefit this entire community.

P.P.S. It could also work well with SBE's Co-op to fight SPAMHAUS and GoDaddy.

I think if BHW wanted to become a registrar or a hosting service, they would have done it long before this thread.

I appreciate your insight. That is not what I am suggesting.


How would I or any other BHW members make money on something BHW itself has a hold on?


Are there any real takers on this? With all the horror stories out there, this could be a potential bombshell in this market.

Please keep in mind that I am NOT suggesting BHW (the forum) become a registrar or hosting service, rather a group of members who would like to provide the right kind of registrar service to everyone here on BHW and outside BHW for that matter.

These are some questions I wanted to answer, and get answers for:



Do you know the process to get domains at wholesale pricing, and be able to register them to the masses real time? Please share some info on how that'd work.

A: I do not know the process, however with an initial investment pool, I feel the money would talk loud enough to get us the answers we want.

Also, when you say you plan to have this as a BHW service, I assume you're talking about BH friendly bulletproof domains? Again, how would you be able to provide this (unless you'll just accept fake info / vccs for payments?).

A: There is no such thing as a "bulletproof domain" but I feel that we would be able to offer a legit registrar service that doesn't jack you of your best domains and team up with complete assholes (Spamhaus) to impose on the World their definition of spam.

We would be ethical and provide BHW members with a fair set of practices, and as long as everything looks good on the surface, we would make no prying attempts into information, nor would we willingly give up info on any one entity!!!




What kind of investment are we looking at?

A: In the thousands, minimum.


Any other questions or input will be great. I am looking to form a group soon to handle the interest from the forum. Probably Skype for conferencing or something.

Yep good Idea but I think they were already working toward it. If you noticed they launched the hosting this past week. My guess the other will be soon to come.

This type of set up is not done over night takes a little planning to do.

its a very competitive market with lots of established registrars and this endeavour would need a big capital and human resources, good luck though

I appreciate the nay sayers and good luck'ers as they are a part of any decent thread on here...any other takers/input on this? Where are the rest of the serious people who want to govern themselves? I am set on the registrar idea...I want nothing or very little to do with hosting.

And in the meantime, where would be best to register our brand name domains?

You need at least 1 mil USD in your bank account as capital and also some thing near 2 mil USD worth of property before sending your application to ICANN and also to be an accredit registrar you need to follow their strict rules...

And also its just not ICANN fee ... for each .com and .net domain you should pay separately some thing near $7-8 to Verisign
