Hi everyone, I'm Lionround from the UK and I finally decided to sign up here and post! I've lurked for a little while and everyone here seems fantastic and helpful.

I've got a couple of things to broadly say in my intro post, so here they are...

    1. I don't have as much experience or knowledge on this subject as I kid myself into thinking I do. - I worked as an IT Tech support, but I'm not anywhere near useful with a computer yet.
    2. I'm unemployed and I have free time to learn.
    3. I'm caring for my dad who has a neuro condition similar to MS but with some other horrible symptoms, I need to make money to help support him, that's why I finally signed up.

What I'm looking for from BHW users is a little guidance and direction, I want to get into IM and be able to pull in $50 a day, but I have little experience with anything website related (other than browsing them) - I know a little html/css, and I stress a little.

What do I need to learn exactly to begin my journey into IM? Do I need startup money (web domains etc?) -- I'm sure you have all heard these questions a hundred times over, from countless newbies.

Any help would be very appreciated as my situation is only getting more urgent/depressing with each day, and I need the power to change it!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read, double thanks to anyone who comes at me with a reply!

    Lionround

    First off, Welcome!
I hope this is the start of an awesome journey into IM for you.

The best startup advice I can offer is to STICK TO IT.
    Nobody gets anywhere quitting.
This is a common theme you'll probably keep running into.

    Now on to your question

    Give yourself more credit.
If you managed to pull of IT Tech Support, then you are definitely capable of running a website and making money from it.

This is probably the second best situation to be in,
the first being with a savings account with a couple thousand bucks in it.
You need time to focus on IM if you want to be successful.
Plenty of employed people make it work,
but having no constraints on your work schedule is crucial, in my experience.

    A noble cause.
People are in IM for all different sub-reasons,
but the main one is making shitloads of cash.
Keep your eye on the ball, you're already in a great frame of mind!

    Two things:
    1. Set aside an hour or two every day for learning. The best way to learn is to do. As someone who is self-taught and makes a good income now, I can tell you that it's not that difficult to learn html/css, you just need to do it and do it A LOT. There's no shame in looking things up every time you run into an obstacle. Just go ahead and attempt to build a website and lookup whatever you need to in g00gle as you go.

    2. There's also no shame in using pre-designed templates. Hell, if nobody used them, we'd be stuck in 1992 online. What moves us forward is innovation, and a big part of internet innovation has been templates. Starting out with no capital means you'll have to work with free templates and free logos, but there are a ton, and I mean a TON out there. Wordpress is your best friend in IM, so use it. Get into Wordpress Themes and learn html, css, javascript/jQuery, and php while you do it.

You don't need any startup money, just time.
And it sounds like you've got that!

Also, you should get a cheap linux hosting plan with cPanel installed.
There are very cheap VPS packages out there, some at $10/month.
Get one of those, it's a very wise investment.

But if you're truly going for free, there are even free hosting plans out there
and you can always make money using Web 2.0 properties like Weebly, Tumblr, Wordpress.com, etc

You gotta be openminded and creative and look into all the METHODS shared on BHW
you'll find that most of them require no startup cost at all
    But the better ones do.

    Definitely try not to stress.
I know it can be tough sometimes.
But my life motto is "where there's a will, there's a way"
$50/day is a good starting goal for you.
Try to reach that by the end of this month, then raise it to $100/day for the next.

I made this thread once for people in tough situations: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...tup-cash-paying-your-rent-bad-situations.html

Maybe it'll be helpful in some way.
The main idea is to be creative and not lose hope.
You'll find a way to pay the bills if you keep trying.

Good luck to you and your dad!
You are always welcome to PM me for help.

This is a much more detailed, helpful and inspirational response than I was expecting.
I'm just replying real quick before I go out for an hour or so, so I'll only be replying to a few points, but I intend to get back to everything you said!

    1. Just signed up to your PinnerElite to check that out, could you tell me a little about it? If not I can do my own research and stop being lazy.
    2. I think I'm opting for Wordpress as my initial taste test for this IM adventure, is it worth having a domain to host my wordpress blog at? From what I can gather most of the legwork is finding a niche, ranking your blog/site higher, and then finding appropriate advertising? I'm really foggy on the ins and outs of this business so far.

I'll get back to you a little later, thank you a whole bunch for such a rich, detailed and helpful reply!

Thanks for signing up. That is all I will say about it though, don't want to break the rules of advertising in threads.

for #2, you don't necessarily have to use SEO as your traffic source, there's a ridiculous amount of ways to get traffic to your wordpress site, social media being the 2nd biggest free source. Facebook, Stumbleupon and Pinterest are my personal favorites, but everyone figures out ways that work best for them.

It really all depends on your niche. For example, the facebook and stumbleupon audiences are mostly about commenting on news stories and having fun. LOL pics are good, breaking news is good. Pinterest is about worshipping beautiful photos, so travel pics and food pics are good. Link this stuff back to your site and you got traffic. Then it's just a matter of converting your traffic into clickers or buyers.

The reason SEO is such a good traffic source is because you can use it for ANY niche, though some niches are more saturated and more competitive than others.

The best thing to do is to organize your schedule so that you can put time into a multitude of endeavors so that you can diversify your income sources. However, I'd add that it's important to keep it low, like maybe 4 or 5 income sources, otherwise it can become unmanagable.

I've been reading through the journey threads a little and for now I've decided on using tumblr and pinterest initially, I'm manually reblogging and queuing content for now, hoping to produce some followers as quickly as possible. Then I will probably create a wordpress and buy a domain.
From what I've pieced together so far, I first have to create content, then get ads, then get traffic? Or traffic then ads?
Also, one of my possible niches is NSFW, what can I use besides adsense?

Thank you to everyone for the positive responses! I intend to work hard and keep learning and trying, any and all advice is welcome.

The more difficult parts, I'm assuming is going to be optimising keywords for traffic and page ranking?
