But BHW has always had people posting about stuff like lifestyle changes and mental health improvement. I do think that mental health is important and I guess we can't stop kids posting about their problems as well

I agree, but it seems like it's a bunch of kids who seriously lack any social skills/awareness posting these threads. I mean there are other more acceptable outlets available to vent or seek advice - Reddit, FB groups, Friends/Family, etc. It's fine for laughs here and there, but I'm seeing it's getting out of hand lately.

Implementing a downvote button could seriously improve the quality of content posted here. I understand it's a blackhat forum, and some users would abuse this feature, but having an algorithm to weight heavily on account age, thank count, JR. VIP status and higher, mods, etc. could balance things out. Let those kids keep venting if they want, but as BHW is an IM forum, let the community a whole see the latest higher quality threads and discussions posted at any given moment.

Everyone knows how influenced posts are on Reddit, the same thing would happen here, as you put it this is black hat forum so eventually any algorithm will be gamed and abused.

I have to 100% agree with you on this, it is something to discuss a personal ideal, but personal life stories should not be allowed.

The problem with those threads that although the are not against the rules the resources to manage them is outside the normal expectation and analytics of the staff management aspects.

They are allowed as they do not break the rules but the responses are often past what is allowed and we remove a bunch of responses and have to pass out warnings - neither of which we like to do.

Should people act as if they would with complete strangers in a public setting without half a dozen drinks and respond as such it would be reasonable but because they are online they think it is fine to post jackwagon commentary.

Granted my level of letting things slide might be lower than other staff members but I do ask their input before shutting down threads that make the original poster look bad, cause us to give infractions due to people thinking it is fine to make comments that are not appropriate and others that go well past what is sociable acceptable.

Good thread, @William702 - posting that one thinks is good for the forum is part of why you were nominated and approved as a Jr Exec.

I suggest all "love" "cry baby" "begging" threads should be reported and banned just like "love dada" this should be a clean mature IM business forum.. Otherwise new visitora qill be coming to the forum from the wrong google keyword searchs.. E.g if some kid googles " My girlfriend dumped me what do I do" how sad will it be that BHW appears on page one for that long tail keywords.. !!

A valid point.

If that is the case though they may not be looking for support in the right places. It's not so much about it being wrong for BHW, It's more about it being better for a more dedicated forum or source for advice or support. Again anyone who truly needs support of some kind are not the issue. it's disingenuous threads that are the problem. At the end of the day this forum is not about that sort of thing, it's an SEO forum. There are many things on this forum that the powers that be have deemed not appropriate. I think this sort of thing should be one of them.

I value everyone's opinion on this though, that's why I added the poll.

Yo guys, if the owner and the rules do allow it, then i dont know why are u all complaining. I mean u could just ignore the threads u dont like its not a big deal. People do those kinda thinga to get some help and motivation.

@BassTrackerBoats said it better than I could've. To add to what he said, something to keep in mind is that we don't entirely want to shut down casual conversation or make members feel stifled being here, although we don't want members using BHW as a place to get mental health care as this is not an appropriate place for them to be seeking this (among other reasons).

Perhaps you, the members, could continue discussing what the criteria could be for where we draw the line between casual discussion and inappropriate content. For example, suicide threads already get shut down, but do you (the members) feel the line should be drawn with depression threads?

These threads (not necessarily love and sex ones) are being created to get juice to their signature links. And it's not just threads, even posts in other threads. Posting one liners on every god damn post just to get that juice to their sigs. It's annoying and getting spammy.

Pretty sure mods have seen these posts by certain members but can't do anything about it as they are not technically breaking the rules. But it's high time something is done about it.

Technically they’re not breaking the rules as BHW only bans political posts (wish they could allow it), but besides that anything fits in oh by the way you can use a tool called ignore button that’s what I use all the time cheers mate

I think you hit the nail on the head with depression threads. I think they should be banned, it would be easy to have a standard response in place with links, numbers or info where people can get actual help, upon a thread being closed. No one wants to think that other people don't care but there is a time and a place and I don't think this forum is the place. I value the opinions of lots of people on this forum but I would not come here to ask for mental health advice.

This SEO forum should not be a place for that. Others have suggested above it gives a bad image for anyone coming to the site. If anyone goes to the lounge there are several threads all hovering at the top. I think even though the name says SEO forum this is a melting pot of entrepreneurs and people wanting to essentially make money. I bet that fortune 500 CEO's and very successful entrepreneurs dont surround themselves with this sort of thing and I certainly don't come here to see several such threads dominating the homepage.

To speak openly it's just sad! and very attention seeking in the wrong ways most of the time. I don't want anyone to think I am directing this specifically at them it's just that I noticed a lot of these threads over the last week and it's getting silly. I'm not blaming anyone for their problems. As I said this was just a rant. I hope that this will be a lesson learned for any of those new members who feel they have been caught up in this to think about what they are sharing publicly on an SEO forum. People out for attention can be spotted from space and it's not a good look. Don't be one of those people

If someone has a problem not associated with SEO, IM, or any of the valid categories listed then I don't think it should be posted on BHW for their sake not mine.
