Last night I posted in a thread which asked where we can now upload large files now MegaUpload has been taken down. A few fair suggestions where made, but they were either slow or had limits before needing to upgrade to a premium account.

However, I am sure a community like ours wouldn't struggle to have our own private download site for the uploads? However, having said that, it'd need funding and finding a good host is a pain as it'll need to be fast for several users to be download simultaneously at top speeds.

So - host recommendations anybody to start one up for a while, consider maybe it as an experiment? Plus any way to offset it since I would hope it be free to our community?

You'd need at least one hi-spec dedicated server with lots of bandwidth. Those don't come cheap...

If someone from BHW starts up a hosting service every damn download will be content locked.

Downtime? What downtime? I have missed something :/?

Dedicated? Wouldn't a VPS do if it had decent connection speed as I can't imagine downloads taking a lot of physical resources in terms of RAM and core speed. But I guess I could be wrong on that.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind forking out £10-£20 per month for nothing, but the requirements for such is much more expensive. As I am a student, I don't have a job and I have to do my research during the daytime so can't fork much more out as I put a lot into the bank just incase anything goes bad IRL. So I guess £25/month would be my upper limit and the rest I would need to find somehow from the hosting itself?

A hosting service for BHW only so no content locking, just provides a private place for us all to upload our stuff when we share it here.

There are file size limits in BHW to my knowledge and only a limited amount of filetypes supported.

The max file size for zip files is 50mb for ZIP files, Which should be near enough for most of the things.

For the others - perhaps mediafire, or multiupload? I might be wrong, but I haven't seen too many songs or movies on mediafire, it's mostly IM books, or other softwares, which aren't big enough to do jackshit to Mediafire like what happened with Megaupload.
