BH SEO - Where to draw the line

Hey guys, I don't post much and usually spend more time searching. However, I have a question that I was unable to find.

My site is about two months old and I just started (two weeks ago) to do all of my off site SEO. My questions is: Where do you draw the line with aggressive back linking for a new site?

I have ran xrumer, done some blog postings, and two pad submissions. I was finally ranked for my keyword (4mil competitors) on page 17 about a half a week ago.

Am I being too aggressive by sending out articles, continuing to post on blogs and multiple pad submissions? Where do I draw the line? I have been hovering on page 17 since I was listed and keep bouncing around.

I feel like I'm being penalized for being too aggressive. There are sites ahead of me that shouldn't be there and I'm beginning to wonder.

Your site is brand new.
Do everything in moderation.
I wouldn't run anything like Xrummer for a brand new site but I assume most of the guys here have more experience with those sorts of scripts.

Everything I've read has stated that newer sites have more leniency with things such as xrumer and large link building campaigns.
