Beware with Godaddy domain auctions.

I am very disappointed. I just won an auction on Godaddy for a domain name, paid for the full cost ( added taxes + almost 20 bucks to register the domain among other things ) and waited for 30 minutes to see the domain on my control panel .

Domain does not appear on my panel , then I finally call Godaddy customer service..... The funny thing comes when the operator tells me that I HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER WEEK TO SEE IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER WANTS TO RENEW THE DOMAIN BEFORE THEY TRANSFER IT TO ME !!! WTF ???

You win the auction, then the article is yours. Isn´t that the way an auction works ? lol So they put into auctions things that they don´t own at 100% ?

If the previous domain owner regrets and still wants to keep it for another year , then godaddy will refund me the amount already taken from my paypal account.

I kinda feel this pure speculation just trying to monetized to the max something that is gonna be expired. Who is going to pay me for the invested time analyzing the domain traffic, kws and all those things if the old owner decides to renew it ? . I was expecting to quickly re-build the site. A week lost in terms of live existing links in the best of the cases...

At this point , I would say fuck the domain. I will never ever participate on a godaddy auction again.

Sounds hectic, sorry about your experience. I am all about namesilo... I just wish they had better buzz/pr then people would use their sales platform more.

Mate although I agree that GoDaddy auctions sucks, you blame them for nothing. You see they are selling expiring domains in their grace period. So even if the auction is finished you need to wait until grace period is over and the old owner cannot renew his domain anymore. Its like that in other auctions as well, and in many places there is auction lock after you recieved the domain.

I don´t use goddady. Indeed I already had a bad opinion about them. Expensive, and trying to sell extra things ( whois mega-protection, doss protection, blabla extended, even the grandmother if it possible) when registering a simple domain . I once registered "an adult looking domain" with them 10 years ago and the domain registration got rejected at the end just because it contained the word "sex".

But this time they were offering on auction a domain name I might be interested in. If the domain" is finally mine " I will move it to my regular registrant as soos as possible.

That has been the way it is for years, and waiting for another week is that much of a hassle if you can find juicy domains there.

I will not use Godaddy again. I had a site with them and they charged me without my permission for all kind of expensive asinine services I did not request.
Getting my money back was like pulling teeth. Every customer service rep I talked to sang a different tune. I would rather pay more for a domain than deal with that company again.

hostgator too they wanted 200$ for hosting package which i said months ago "cancel my hosting package"

This is actually incorrect. They did in fact do it this way in the past, but a month or so ago they changed it where only once the domain fully drops it will go into auction. Either your experience is before that change or whoever you talked to on the phone doesn't know they changed it.

Do keep in mind you signed up for an auctions account and bid on the domain when they made this very clear in their Terms of Service. Again, this is either an old issue or the customer service rep is an idiot, since they changed this. People used to let their domains "expire" let it go to auction and see what it went for then they would renew and hope the highest bidder would contact them, or they then had an idea of what it was worth. I'm a domain investor so I had many run ins with this and it used to drive me nuts.

I just landed an expired domain loaded with incredible metrics. It used to belong to a worldwide mega band, but they decided in 2012, that Facebook was a better way to go, so they 301’d for 5 years... mine now. They’re dropping another album in a few months, and I’ll be piggybacking off that.

Moral of the story? Glad I was patient with that godaddy auction. Setting up to bank ridiculously hard. 900k monthly exact match keyword domain with tons of do fallow media links. I’ll let you guys know when I buy BHW from @Diamond Damien muahahahahahaha

Maybe the domain is in a situation that GoDaddy needs to confirm the renew from the past owner first.
The domain is obviously yours now..

Yeah, but I waited my time. It's not a big deal. Most of these are in auction because the owner has moved on.
