do not accept freebies. Ask yourself what is the purpose of those freebies and what the guy gains in giving it out?

They collect your email address and your website urls, later they just blackmail you or just ruin ur website.
 
I got the same email from this idiot. Hopefully Google will take him down.

Paypal should also be notified. Hopefully they take action against him as he is extorting money and using their platform to do so.

Wow. Shit just got real.. I got the mail too. But, I don't care about the sites that I had given him...
 
Got something similar a while back. Same MO of pay or get blasted. But the twist was that if he blasted the links, he would provide the link list to be used in a disavow file for twice the amount of money. BTW, the contact was made through a small but 100% WH site. Of course I did not pay, the site got blasted with garbage links and the site COMPLETELY tanked in less than two weeks.

While it's nice Matt Cutts agreed to look into your situation, it does not scale and leaves a lot of legit people SOL. At least in my case, I'd venture to say a lot of people are paying the double fee to get the disavow link file after it's proven the toxic links can do a lot of damage. IMO, Google's link policies are freakin pathetic....
 
Google's motto is "Do No Evil" The devil must be in the details I'm missing :) Dealing with them SEO wise is a fool's paradise. Thankfully I have been working hard to not get myself caught by the wild animals Google unleashes from time to time. If someone launches a negative seo campaign against you it won't tank, you will just have to adjust your offpage seo to bring you back up again. I'm going to be in competitive niches and I am building it right so this negative seo campaign won't happen to me.

I think he means that he has no clue. I'm sure that would be real easy to do when a couple hundred thousand links have been blasted to a site. ROFL
