Guys,

All new wordpress 2.8.4 installation via Fantatisco are set to a default no-index setting.

Please check your privacy setting and make sure that you're not blocking all search engines to index your new site.

Just thought of informing more people about this as I'm seeing more posts on BHW about Google not indexing their new sites after weeks or even months. This is likely to be the problem.

I had some problems indexing my autoblogs I created about a week ago--never had any problems indexing my new site within a few hours. Never knew that the problem lies in the setting of my wordpress blogs itself and not because of Google making any new changes to it's algorithm in regards to the speed of indexing. /slit wrist

Hope this helps.

oh no.. but i got it.. i dono why it happened to u.

Hmm... Don't use fantastico anymore, but thanks for the heads up.

no fantastico what should we use instead?
Suave

I just verified NOT using Fantastico does NOT set this value. It is set to the first option that allows spiders.

I actually HOPED this was the reason I haven't been indexed. :)

Yeah, I ran into this issue awhile ago and couldn't believe why it ended up my site was refusing to get indexed.

Great tip for those that didn't know

thanks man... im been banging my damn head against the wall.. if that happens and then we turn it on do we need to make new posts all over again?

Yeah this happened to me. I normally use a script that copies files/db for WP installs but I redid an old site that makes me a lot of money which is on a different host. I figured why bother copying my script when I can use Fantastico. My site was deindexed and I had a hell of a time figuring it out. Probably 3-4 weeks of lost revenue. Finally got back in the index yesterday 1-2 weeks after changing privacy settings.

To check this just login to WP then under settings click privacy. I noticed it when trying to diagnose my problem I finally noticed a <meta robots = "noindex, nofollow"> tag. I thought someone had hacked my fucking site for awhile cause I couldn't find this line in the template files, etc.

Oh and Google wouldn't reindex my site for a long ass time like I said. I even built some more links thinking it would help. I eventually signed up for Google Webmaster Tools and submitted a sitemap of the site and it was back in index the next day.

fantastico is convenient, but you pay for it in other ways. i always check the settings whether i use fantastico or whether i download and then install manually.

OMG... thats way my site doesn't get index right now.
the only one that get index is when i ping my first article... LOL

Thanks! I had 4 sites that were set to "stupid". This check goes in my wordpress install guide TODAY.
