Trying to work around the redirect. Would a simple "Click Here to Continue" with a picture of the image and price be considered cloaking or a redirect? I need this redirect or else I won't earn with amazon.
 
Exactly what they mean by "trademark of Amazon or its affiliates"?
Does this means, no branded domains for amazon affiliates websites?
If so, this is all I have to say: Cr*p!

You are not allowed to use any trademark of Amazon or its affiliates, or a variant or misspelling of a trademark of Amazon or its affiliates:

a. in any domain name - for example, a domain name such as <endlessboots.com>, <amaozn.com>, <amazonsupplystore.com>, <amazonauctions.net>, <kindlemagazines.mydomain.info>, <kindlewirelessreader.co.uk>, <friendazon.com>, <amazon.blogspot.com>, <amazonmusicblog.wordpress.com>, <www.uk.com/amazonreviews>, <imdb-videos.info>, or <johnsamazon.org> is prohibited; or
b. Can i use link that create from javascript. I don't need to send backlink to amazon.
 
this is like a vicious cycle , First the penguin form google and now the amazon , If we do not clock the link Big G will come to know that we are affiliate and we will get tanked , but amazon will get the benefit of link juice form naked url , If we put the cloak the url then we are banned by amazon what a tough game to pay .
 
So i can still build an amazon affiliate website on a domain with the brand of the product I'll be selling (for example: apple-ipad.com), right?
Of course I may still have problems with the original brand owner, but I'm only asking about amazon now.
 
Does this cover Pretty Links? I figure since it's an internal redirect anyways, Pretty Links shouldn't be affected.
 
Zemanel, yes that's right. Amazon could care less about other's companies properties.

GuinnessMan, If redirect obscures destination of link to Amazon then it's breaking TOS.
"30. You will not cloak, hide, spoof, or otherwise obscure the URL of your site containing Special Links (including by use of a redirecting page) such that we cannot reasonably determine the site from which a customer clicks through such Special Link to the Amazon Site."

I interpreted it as "If you cloak with the intention of hiding the traffic source, then you are in violation of the TOS." So obscuring the link's destination to the user is fine, but obfuscating the source of the traffic is against TOS.

Probably best to check with Amazon themselves if you are concerned.
 
Shurk, first of all, why make and change own TOS the way that nobody of your affiliates can interpret it one and only way? I agree with your interpretation but that's just me and we are likely to believe what we want to believe. You are right that we should ask Amazon themselves but I think the flow changed. They becoming greedy for 8% they pay affiliates. Too big, too strong, just like Google. Meh.

Take a look at their own definition of redirecting from this same operating agreement.
"Redirecting Link" means a link that sends users indirectly to the Amazon Site via an intermediate site or webpage and without requiring the user to click on a link or take some other affirmative action on that intermediate site or webpage.

I dont like this one bit but at least they put it in paragraph about search engine results. So it's not prohibited in general on publishers sites, as I understood it.

So guys. What still works? Brad's CPA redirector? No-following links to amazon enough to prevent google slap? What is general consensus on this?
 
planning to remove the link cloaking plugin "pretty link " and use no-follow to the naked url of amazon , But i don't know whether it will prevent google slap . As i feel that google no longer consider whether it is no-follow or do-follow a link is a link
 
Would Amazon be able to recognize if you make a redirect based on the referring URL? So if Amazon decides to check out the page, it would be different.

Would anybody explain a little bit more here? They claim you cannot/shoudnot use Brad's CPA redirector, but how can they tell? If you build a promising site and then send traffic to links generated by Brad's CPA redirector, wouldn't it still be safe?

I just want to know if technically the way of faking referrer can be detected by amazon, anybody?

I'm looking at Walmart.com as an alternative for many of my sites. Their commissions are lower but I think they will have a similar effect of people buying multiple things and people assuming their prices are lowest so not shopping around before they check out. Their online inventory is comparable to Amazon's as well. I don't like an affiliate dictating how I build my sites and Amazon has gone too far with this one.

I actually got into this thread with a link from Lbrown..

I don't do any redirects for my amazon sites as I put my aff links manually on each post.

But I wonder if this applies to Amazon store builder such as WP-Amaz-one, Shopperpress, etc...???

Also, I've been looking into Walmart as well, but it'll be only for US traffic, wouldn't it? well, we don't have Walmart here in UK ;)
 
Well, my account is gone as of july 2012. I used a simple double-php-redirect to disguise my traffics origin.. that went well for almost 2 years.
Oh well, there goes a nice 100% passive income stream... damn!
