Last night at a wedding a saw a friend who currently works for Google in the adsense dept. I bet her dinner that the +1 button wont last for more than a year. :eating:

Y dont u ask her about secrets of google and share it here :D ? Like how we can use BH on adsense...

BTW, i'm on your friends side. I bought a domain related to google plus one. So, I hope it catch on. But not too much, all my other sites will loose ranking lol..

She's in sales. She doesn't do any technical work so she's not privy to that kind of info

Facebook scares Google but with Facebook growth slowing in the US Google may become a little less paranoid and perhaps more likely to give a new feature some time to gain acceptance in the marketplace.

Why does everyone think that if someone works for google they have google's deepest darkest secrets?!

The only reason growth of facebook is slowing in the US is because every f*cking american is already on facebook, theres nobody left!

I would've bet her panties on my bedroom floor myself but if Wave was anything to go by google are out of new ideas atm and need some fresh thinking.
They're not even being threatened by the other search engines, they hate
marketers because the bottom line is they want to be the only online marketer.
To me google is just like a tv channel and if I don't like what I'm watching I change channels.
Niche engines would really change the market. Create a porn only search engine, Google would loose chunks.

Hehe, yeah I would have bet with you! I think +1 will FAIL similar to Buzz. ;)
Aren't dinners at weddings traditionally "free" and covered by the brides family?

Funny, yesterday a friend and I were talking about the shear mass amount of data GOOG has on trends, forecasts, private data, etc.
And putting all that information to use for investing and speculating on various stock exchanges. Wouldn't it be nice :D

I was thinking about a doctorate on that, it would be a smasher... There are not so many fetishes, a couple of thousands maybe so the analysis wouldn't be so hard but the problem is that there is no free porn. Nor an easier way to create it cheaply.

It's not like posting one's own musings about how to cook or who to vote for. I doubt there are many actual sites in existence. The rest is just spam without meat, selling subscriptions. And the download sites of course.

On the other hand, if the niche websites are at least a bit more universal than niche oriented, then they could be ranking for other keywords too on other niche searches. So a crawler would get the content, analyze it, then discard the parts that are not for his niche = resource wasting.

It is more economical not to discard anything but to put it to use as well = G and the rest of the mainstreamers.

Remember the guy who left the iPhone 4 sitting in a bar? He was "just an Apple employee".

You do realize that "leaks" are actually done for marketing purposes right? You have any idea how much buzz it was around that "accidentally forgotten iPhone"? Free advertising.

@OP: Do you think it matters if it lasts less than a year or more? It's a drop in an ocean. Google has hundreds of "failed" or not so popular projects. Everybody uses the search engine. Some use Google Scholar. Some use Trends. Some might even use Lists. They build them. If they catch great, if not great again. Every Google employee has like 20% or 25% of his work time available for his own personal project. He implements whatever he wants. Google owns full rights on it of course. The guy has just the pride of building it in the first place.

Long time before Google Maps I got this crazy idea to make a MMORPG game like a RTS - with a scrolling map with units on it. Kinda like Red Alert was. So I made a proof of concept mockup and it worked. Wasn't blazing fast or anything but was a good start. I abandoned the idea because it would have been difficult and time consuming and then marketing a game would have been a nightmare. I then saw Google Maps for the first time and went "WTF!? A scrolling map like the one in my game!". You see, everybody WOWed at the implementation when Google Maps came out because nobody ever thought of doing that in a browser. But I did it. However just having an idea or knowing how to develop something doesn't mean you end up making a profit with it or get it popular or "successful" (whatever that word means to you).

@madoctopus...

I dont get it, how is google maps like a MMORPG? Aren't there lots of strategy games like that ?

the technology used for scrolling the map and all that stuff is similar to what i developed a long time ago for a browser based game. that's it. and no there aren't many web based games like that. i only know one.

People are slowly migrating from being on Facebook for checking updates to using Twitter for their daily updates on their friends

I think it will be huge flop. But if they put that plus 1 button in SERP like star, it may become somewhat famous

the plus 1 button is in the serp
