I was thinking about this, is it better to use a brandable, short, memorable domain name like Energyze.com or an informative, encoloypedia-related domain name like EnergyInfo.com for an Authority Site?

Not using those domains or that niche, just for example.

Honestly, both the names you mentioned are brandable names in my eyes. First one is better of course, if you can find such a domain for registration price only.

It depends on what you may be trying to achieve. Both domains you have provided are brandable and short. But if you were looking at EMD and perhaps a longer one, then maybe you should instead go for country level domains, as those are working exceptionally well for locally searched traffic, whereby it seems the local search engine is giving priority to such domains when a local IP is used for the search.
Otherwise, if you are not going for EMD, then but for a brandable one, the shorter and something that makes sense that can form a word, would be the best bet. Never use a hyphen as that is not brandable at all, and it's really a big hassle to key in the hyphen as part of the domain name.
