Polylang is the best plugin that you can find for free. However, I have had a lot of problems with it on some themes that I have been working on. WPML (paid) is still number #1 for me.

The best one I've found is the paid version of GTranslate.

I haven't used Polylang but GTranslate creates all of the individual pages automatically for a ton of languages. They get indexed and they get traffic from tons of countries. I installed the plugin on a site and the traffic went up a few hundred visitors per month from many countries in about a month. The translations were also very high quality. I got tons of emails in other languages asking me questions because of this. The bad part was I activated several languages where the ads hardly make any money. The good is I got a great global reach on the site. It was all automated. I didn't change or fix any pages. I created all of the content in English.

WPML is best, string translations works great! and if needed multi language in future then you can enable that easily.
