Posting this here because the site is Whitehat. If you have advice about this which is somehow Blackhat, let me know anyway(?).

I'm wondering what the best (non-free) plugins for WP are which I can download for a newspaper website.
I'm using a "vault" for my plugins from a member here if you understand what I mean. I won't mention them by name. So I am looking for suggestions for plugins for a newspaper website.

Thank you

you're probably using Festingersvault's plugins, but why not mention his name? Is this forbidden or what?

To your question... only security and SEO plugins are essential, everything else is up to you, really...

Because it would be sort of an "advertisement" - and I'm not getting paid for it. Haha

Although there are countless WP plugins you can use for a news site, the two types you should focus on first are those for security and SEO. For security, you can check out the VaultPress plugin, as it will keep your site safe without breaking the bank. And as for SEO, you can’t go wrong with Yoast SEO Premium (it's WP’s most downloaded plugin for a reason). After you’ve secured these two, you can branch out and look for plugins for image optimization (ShortPixel Image Optimizer and Ptimus are good examples) or caching/performance (WP Rocket, NitroPack, etc.).
