Best wordpress plugins and themes for amazon ecommerce

I'm making my first wordpress site and I'm looking for some advice from some more experienced wordpress publishers.

My site will generally look like an ecommerce site but the items clicked upon will offer information on various aspects of the product and have a link to where the product may be purchased (some of which will be amazon and some other affiliates). I don't need the cart functionality, reviews etc etc.

I basically want a way that my users can sort products/posts by various things defined by me. Lets say it was about cars, I would want to be able to sort by make, model, year etc.

I don't need to be restricted by ecommerce plugins and themes if sorting and searching custom attributes of posts is possible.

What free plugins/themes can help me achieve this?

Seems to me the easiest way to do it is actually with an ecommerce plugin anyway.

It just seems like overkill for most of the functionality an ecommerce plugin offers I would not be using.

I have discovered custom fields after a little bit of searching. Maybe a plugin that allows the user filter products via that meta data is the way to go..
