I'm wanting to track people who visit my website and complete the form to request more information.

I'll be sending people to my site via a shortened URL (I can add any tags where needed) - when somebody completes and submits my form for more information, I want to know which link that person clicked, so I can work out which advertising is working best. So each link will be from different forms of advertising.

What's the best way of going about this? Do I even need to use a plugin, or would Google A work by itself? If a plugin makes it quicker to view in the dashboard, I'd prefer that method.

It only needs to track people who complete the form.

google analytics can track more than what the standard (casual) webmaster ever needs. So yes, GA can definitely track the source / entry page // landing page / whatever...

But if all you need to track is which link the people sign up from there are probably dozens of ways to do this (because it's very basic tracking), probably there are even free Wordpress plugins that can do such basic tasks. Just don't ask me which plugins because I've been out of touch with WP for a few years so I don't know what's on the market anymore. But I am willing to bet that options (free and paid) exist :)

Metrica from Yandex offers a free user replay with heat and click mapping.

Monsterinsight has easy user friendly interface, making it accessible for beginners and providing advanced features for experienced users

I've managed to grab that now from Deleted member 752298. Have you personally used it?

Yandex Metrica and MS Clarity do a better job than GA4.
GA4 works, too, of course.

My vote is for choosing GA4 and then maybe installing monsterinsights if you want to browse analytics from your WP dashboard.

Another option, depending on which form building you're using, you could look into Independent Analytics. That plugin works with a bunch of different form builders to give you more in-depth analytics about your forms, and it includes referrers. I used it before with a fluent forms setup. You could get the same info from GA4 with a little effort, but Independent is pretty much plug and play.

Are all these plugins you mentioned free?

Monsterinsights and Independent both have free versions, but if you want to integrate Independent with your form builder then you need a paid version. Something like $5 per month.

Alright, got it. I will try them.

Just have to mention, I only vouch for Independent analytics if you're looking for a very simple way to track stats your form(s). But if you already know how to work in GA4 and tag manager, or have enough patience to get help from ChatGPT, then you don't need Independent analytics plugin.

I will do that. Great suggestion!

i would just use Google analytics for that, and for me is no no for analytics plugin installed on my WP

At some point in the future and thanks for the suggestion

You can use UTM tags on your shortened URLs to track where visitors come from. Then, set up Google Analytics Goals (GA4) to track form submissions. No plugin needed if you can add GA4 tracking code and set up goals. But if you want easier viewing in your dashboard, a plugin like MonsterInsights or GA4 plugins helps. You can see your data whenever you want from GA4. It store & save your data totally free!!!
