Best ways to make sure e-mails don't hit spam/junk folder?

I started building an e-mail list and notice that most of the e-mails that I send out hit the persons spam folder. Even I get them to my spam folder. Are there any strategies to go by that increases the chances of the e-mails going into their inbox instead of spam/junk box?

Not sure if this helps but i read a post where some guy wrote a personalized ecard with his info on it to his list. I haven't tried it yet but he said it worked.

first you must make sure you mailserver is configured fine - do you have valid MX record? do the mail server host name exist and points to the same IP? Do the sender email address exist at that mailserver?

Also you should avoid putting most common blacklisted words in your subject..

I recently had issues like yours, till i found out my MX wasn't set up fine and once i fixed it, my messages don't hit junk folders..
