Best way to redirect?

What is the best way to redirect while keeping loading times to a minimum and keeping serp rankings the same?

I did a chat with a tech support guy from my web hosting company and he said use the domain redirection they have on their website? Has anybody used their host to do this for them before so that they could keep their google rankings intact? Any help would be appreciated?

Efficient, fast, does NOT blank the referrer or anything so look for DMR or cpa-r for that.

You can also try a basic 301 redirect in .htacess. I believe this is what your hosting cp will do. This kind of redirect happens immediately. When just trying to redirect a moved page or something, I always use the 301 redirect and have never had any issues. If you're doing BH stuff, you'll need a script (search here and you will find one).

That's why you do a 301 from your www domain to your non-www domain (or vice versa) - so the crawler ignores the redirected version and passes all the link juice onto the destination. I often read different opinions about individual deep links being redirected. Many say you should regularly build backlinks to the new page because the spiders detect the redirect and devalue the original address over time. (But I can't verify this because I haven't tested it - so don't take my word for it, research it.)

301 redirects using the .htaccess file is probably the safest and easiest way to go. You can globally set your attributes and url and it works pretty well. Although, if you only want specific pages to redirect, then link redirection using 301 syntax may be a better option.

301 redirect through .htaccess is the best. You will keep your rankings in Google, mine even improved after the re-direct, strange!
