Best way to monetize a keyword

Hi,
If we currently have a website that is currently getting 14.5k local hits per month, is the best way to monetize it to convert it to a shopping site or to create a different site that links to it in order to sell our products?

it's tangible products. light products is the broader spectrum of things. The main site is currently a reference site use for our manufacture reps. Lots of traffic through there but no purchases.
