Anyone here who taught themselves another language?

Anyone here who taught themselves another language?
I taught myself Russian and while I can't say I'm fluent, I speak, write, read, and understand it well enough and the natives I've spoken to just told me that I really just need to increase my vocabulary at this juncture. Before I learnt Russian, however, I made many unsuccessful attempts to teach myself the following languages:

  • German (my username is in German :p) - I just lost interest, but I'll probably start learning it again in a couple of years.
  • French - I became ill around the time I was learning it, so I never had a chance to finish learning it.
  • Latin - You can ascertain why I stopped learning Latin.
  • Spanish - My overall experience with Spanish speakers in California was negative as most of them were rude to me and cared more about feeling superior because they spoke the language than truly helping anyone. I've been around the language my entire life, so I actually understand it quite well, but I refuse to respond or speak in it.
  • Japanese - I gave up on this real fast!
  • Mandarin - I lost interest after a day.

I started learning Russian by learning the Cyrillic alphabet, but since German uses the Latin alphabet, you won't have to go through this.

After I learnt Cyrillic, I picked up a few audio tutorials and books in addition to using online resources to help me develop a basic vocabulary. From there, I just naturally picked up the grammar, spelling, and words.

I tried to learn german some years ago when I was in Germany looking for a job. But anyways I lost the interest after 2 months of fails and moved to another country.
Last month I started to try Estonian, can be useful. =D

Learned German while in high school. Best way to learn a new language is to incorporate it everywhere in your life. Start with Duolingo, then get some easy books in the language, listen to music in the language, play video games in the language, etc, etc, etc. Maybe even find some SEO forums in the language you're learning :D

I'm actually taking German at high school as well. I also listen to German metal (Rammstein)
