Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to the whole IM thing but I'm learning by doing a lot that I read here...

Something that I am struggling with is setting up my sites for different niches. In my ideal setup, i'd like to have a single hosting or VPS from where I can host several WP sites or online stores and point different domains to each of the sites.

What do you think the best way to do this is?

- A VPS with a webserver and something like nginx?
- A normal hosting that allows me to do this?

It's really important that I can manage all the sites independently of course

Any help or guidance here would be super helpful!

Thanks in advance!

You can host multiple domains on one hosting plan, as long as the provider allows it. For example, I'm using Hostgator's "Baby" plan, and I think I can host 3 domains. I'm hosting two right now. They're both Wordpress sites, and I don't have any issues managing them independently.

The way it works is that you have one main domain, then you add the other domains as "add-on domains."

use one of the hosting services from BHW. In your c/panel go to addon domain and add your domain ( Point it first to the host of course )
you just access the files via ftp or through c/panel
I have lots of sites on one host, i don't use hostgator myself as they throttle traffic.

When you say Hostgator throttles traffic, I'm assuming you're talking about its shared plans?

yeh, their shared hosting has limits which are very low. They also own justhost and many others. you can read who hostgato's parent company owns here

Hostgator is fine as long as u don't hit a spike eg go viral. Then it is down. Same goes for all server really unless I have cache and everything tuned in. With Wordpress I will hit the cliff pretty soon even with decent ssd blaze hosting. Around 50-100 maybe 200 per second.

So if u go viral and then just loose all that traffic that would suck dog balls. The cloud is actually a super cheap website hosting opportunity. A hosted site costs pennies depending on your data transfer etc.

I assume we are talking about static type hosting affiliate directed offer simple web page.
No video hosted directly.

Of course the cloud can handle database clusters aswell but it cost a lot more than a static site! Amazon has read and write blocks of massive capacity for this also.

I must admit it is a great feeling when u get spikes and see affiliates actual page go down from all the referral traffic that you are sending, ohh hang on it is not a ddos, it's for real !! shadang it takes its man to handle 10-50 gb per second. !! The referral links just pop, cloudflare gives up on you and you will get a phone call or two. -asking you for a deposit of 5000$ right away to stay up, or at least try!

Unless the affiliate is on auto scale within seconds or minutes, it can hick the whole system up with delays etc.

we see this every week. Still if u push over 15k a second the stuff goes down unless u warm them up before with cloud provider if you are exspecting A planned spike, u can also split regions and add more buckets !

how would you know your article was going to go crazy nuts!?maybe you only get one chance to impress on this traffic and you lost it, vanished 4ever.

In the cloud. Pretty much no limits to handle traffic. CDN buckets etc.

Amazon s3 bucket can handle 5k a second. With cloudfront about 15 k. Each s3 bucket has a bandwidth of 10gb/s. All as standard basic setup.

To sit and play with varnish caches, nginx setups. Apache, and top this with cloudflare for a normal webpage is just overkill, expensive, time consuming and unfortunately the mainstream way today.

People talk about co2 emissions. I wonder how much Co2 emissions and impact on nature and populations. systems like Wordpress has created so much bad in a short life time!?, resources that has been mined and energy, it has made people displaced, established more poverty. it is the biggest fraud that has ever happend in IT tech, it is not just Wordpress but throughout the tech industry, a commonplace for madmen that should of kept mining coal.

Everyone needs a database, get me out of here.

I will not be needing anything very big for now, as I am only starting out and doubt I can shed out enough traffic to block anything haha

But plan is to scale up and learn on the way, so I might go for something like DigitalOcean, as it seems cheap enough to start with and provides good "support tutorials" to start from scratch, what do you think?

I that case I recommend a normal hosting, not a VPS.

Use a cheap VPS from reliable providers like a2hosting.com and netdedi.com.
Their prices are low taking into account the amount of resources included in their plans. Uptime is high and their network is fully-redundant.

You need a vps with about 5 to 10 clear ips or purchase a reseller with some ips

Well, i can say that hostwinds have been an amazing host. Support is quick and extremely helpful.
All of my issues and questions were answered within a few minutes at most, and the issues themselves were quickly resolved as well.

Give namecheap a try. You might be surprised with the quality of their service.

( I have no affiliation with namecheap. )

I have tested and using a2hosting and its been the best hosting for my several sites and if you are using wordpress for your sites, its one of the fastest for wordpress!
