Best way to Gain knowledge about SEO

In the last few months, a Question has been around me how we can get knowledge about SEO and how can we build a good career opportunity?

Give me the best suggestion to answer.

I have learned alot through ahrefs blogs. They have tactical blogs. Elsewhere you will only find theoretical blogs.

Read blogs and YouTube is your best friend.

- Read BHW threads.
- Follow some good quality SEO experts like Rand Fishkin perhaps.
- Watch relevant videos.
- Experiment with various types of sites.

These are some of the ways to gain knowledge about SEO I guess.

I've already answered a similar question in forum but could not find the thread so I give my 2 cents here again and hope it will be helpful for you.

I'm doing SEO for a long time (+10 years) and I really like it because I can see what people are searching for on the net and it's funny for me! )) After all these years, if I want to start it again from the beginning here's how I'd go:

Start with the basics, and there are a lot of free resources out there that will give you some type of foundation. Obviously, https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/seo-starter-guide is a great place to start because it's straight and simple, so you know that you are not getting a bunch of BS information. Moz and Ahrefs also have great beginner guides that break things down really well.

Once you have got the very basic principles, then it's time to practice. Just create your own blog or website and practice the different SEO techniques you have learned. Nothing replaces hands-on practice. In addition, you will be building yourself a portfolio to take with you as you apply for jobs.

Familiarize yourself with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, and Ahrefs. These are the tools that professionals use, so knowing your way around them will make you stand out from the crowd.

The next big step is networking. Join search engine optimization communities on either Reddit, LinkedIn, or specialized forums (yea BHW has great sub-froum about SEO as well), participate in discussions, and ask questions, or even share your insights. The SEO community is pretty cool; you will learn a lot from others that are more experienced.

Consider taking a few certifications. https://analytics.google.com/analytics/academy/profile/survey?c_id=6offers classes for free, and there are paid classes from Moz, HubSpot, and others that are good to have on a resume. They're not always necessary, but they give them some momentum when they're starting.

Finally, stay up to date. SEO is constantly evolving; follow some of the leading blogs in the industry, such as https://www.searchenginejournal.com/, https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo, and https://neilpatel.com/blog/. Join newsletters in this industry to stay informed on new strategies. It takes time and requires one to be persistent, but with hard work, you will definitely cut a niche for yourself in SEO.

Be regular on the forum, you will automatically learn a lot of things including latest trends.

Google and youtube is your best friends and BHW ofc…

Get an RSS feeder and subscribe to as many SEO publications as possible. I have found so much value in browsing everything "under one roof" than having to visit 30-40 SEO blogs at a time.

Also, do the same with SEO-dedicated channels.

Additionally, put your hand on as many SEO courses as you can.

One piece of advice I will give you is that don´t underestimate what someone might teach you. Get off your horses don´t be an arrogant bastard and open your mind to any resource you can get your hands on.

Why?

The more you read and learn about SEO from different sources and different perspectives it will help you:

1. Tell BS apart
2. Gain a more solid foundational knowledge about SEO
3. You don´t know who might teach you something that can eventually turn into a great idea

I can´t tell you how many times I´ve watched a YT tutorial or while in the middle of an SEO course and something the guy said, ow how he said it spiked something in my head that led me to test something.

Also, be as active as possible on online SEO communities like this one.

One thing I did when I started my journey here was to abuse the advanced search feature to search for specific SEO topics and take the time to read through the comments and replies from other members.

I often found myself quoting multiple replies on a single thread by either asking questions or just trying to comment on something that would make the user either further expand on this comment or the discussion, and all with the intention to take notes.

This forum has been critical to my development as an SEO Strategist so, don´t take it for granted.

Lastly, make sure to test, test, and test your ass out and, don´t forget to document everything.

Learn on all these platforms. Start a blog and do some practical experiments, join communities to also learn.

Read threads here on SEO. Read journeys. Find very good courses in udemy, buy them on discount and learn from there as well.

Try to read daily forms on BHW and give reply to the form.
Try to Understand the message of other person.
Daily reads forms and stay updated.
Try to regular visit BHW.

Read a lot watch videos but try to filter out the garbage information and keep only the good ones.
Unfortunately this comes with time and practise.

You should be active on forums like BHW. Just by interacting with members here , you can learn a lot.

All seo related blogs are not good. Some are just spamming for affiliate sales.
