Best way to build backlinks & visibility for Crypto / Web3 builder startup targeting developers?

I’m working on a Web3 builder startup that’s starting to gain traction, and we’re ready to invest seriously in distribution and SEO. Our main target is developers in the Web3/crypto space, and we want to approach it the right way — real placements that make sense for the ecosystem, not spammy shortcuts.
I’d love to hear how others in the crypto/dev space have found the right sites or blogs for backlinks, whether guest posting still works, or any tips to avoid low-quality networks and overpriced SEO packages. We do have capital to deploy, but the goal is a long-term, strategic approach.

Guest posting on relevant, niche websites is honestly the most effective and safest long-term strategy — especially for a Web3 / developer-focused project. When your links come from sites that actually match your audience and topic, the SEO value and trust signals are much stronger.

As a second layer, placements on high-quality general authority websites can also work very well. They help diversify your backlink profile and build overall domain strength.

What I’d strongly recommend avoiding are low-quality link types like Web 2.0s, PBNs, mass blog comments, profile links, etc. Those may look cheap and fast, but they rarely hold value long term and can even create risk.

For sustainable growth and to stay aligned with how Google evaluates links today, editorial guest posts on real websites remain one of the best approaches.
 
in case of crypto i would focus on social media traffic/virality/telegram and stuff like that. need to move fast in this niche
 
Buy guest post on websites related your niche. Places that charge a fee usually offer a higher quality of service.
 
For Web3/dev tools, here's what's been working:

High-value placements:
  • Dev.to, Hashnode, Medium (technical articles that actually help devs)
  • CoinDesk, Decrypt, Cointelegraph (editorial > paid, but paid still works if the content is good)
  • Crypto-specific press distribution services for announcements
Community stuff:
  • Reddit (r/ethereum, r/web3, r/CryptoDevelopers) - be helpful, don't spam
  • Stack Overflow / Ethereum StackExchange - answer real questions
  • Twitter/X dev communities - lots of devs hang out there
What NOT to do:
  • Avoid cheap PBN packages and mass blog comments - Google hates crypto sites already, don't give them more reasons
  • Skip the "100 backlinks for $50" nonsense
Real talk: In crypto/web3 space, reputation matters more than backlink count. One mention from Vitalik or a trusted dev influencer beats 1000 garbage links. Focus on building something devs actually want to use, then get it in front of them through places they trust.

Also - press releases work great for global reach if you're targeting multiple regions. Worth considering for major launches.

-> Can you explain me if you already tried it and why this is not a good idea to buy backlink ? Like it's something i might consider if there is a service that provide good backlink, but very interested to hear opinion why it doesn't work, is a bad idea
 
In the Web3 space, relevance matters more than volume. Dev-focused blogs, ecosystem grants, and technical case studies tend to earn the cleanest links. Guest posts still work, but only on sites where your tech genuinely fits the audience. Avoid anything that looks templated or off-topic.
 
Guest posts still work if they’re truly technical and useful, not promotional.

Visibility grows fastest from real ecosystem contributions, not generic SEO link packages.

Instead of going after quick backlinks, I'd propose that you focus on creating true authority in the Web3/dev field. Add valuable technical material, work with well-known platforms, and aim for sites that your audience trusts. A systematic, relationship-based approach will provide you considerably better results than buying spots or leveraging networks that aren't very good.
 
Focus on relevance over volume. Guest posts work if they add real value. Target crypto/dev blogs, communities, and ecosystem projects. Avoid link networks. Prioritize authority, mentions, and partnerships where your audience is active.
 
Focus on guest posts, niche forums, and social media engagement to build backlinks and visibility in the crypto/Web3 space.
