Best VPS for Streaming and storage?

Do you think there is a big difference of speed with SSD and HDD, i found that it's really expensive to buy 500GB SSD, my max concurrent users watching is around 30

I don't think you'll need SSD. You should monitor disk read speeds though.

I am quite new to this, I have my files on a video sharing service now, should I got with a windows since I can access websites and download or linux is better?

You can check out hostspicy although their servers are somewhat expensive though.

1. For Video Streaming you should not use vps if you are having constant high traffic. 1gbps unmetered Vps max they will set 200 to 250mbps as 95% weekly for vps. You get burstable 1Gbps but if you go beyond a limit with high traffic, you will be forced to upgrade or your speed will be reduced to under that limit or even worse. If your concurrent visitors is not high u can stick with vps till the concurrent visitors picks up.
2. You will need SSD, for video streaming, even enterprise hdd @7200rpm cant give u read speed during high load.
Ask your host about the bandwidth before in the site chats or contact mails. they will all have fair usage policy.

Honestly if you need something long term you're better off buying your own equipment.

I have around 10-30 concurrent visitors and video quality is 720 or less.
Do you think a VPS can't handle that?
the website will be on a different host and that VPS will be only to serve the videos
That is not an option for me now.

- yes it can easily handle even upto 150 with HDD & vps, no ssd needed but u are better off with ssd if you do not need high space. im talking about above 200 300 users. & its not about 720p, its about bitrate.
Eg: 720p@ 2000kbps + 128kbps audio = approx 800 Concurrent Users if you have 1Gbps dedicated unmetered speed + ssd disks.

Still far away from 200 users concurrent hahaha, I will surely think of a SSD VPS when I reach around 50-100 concurrent and I will have more money to invest for a high end VPS or even Dedicated

even 50 to 100 u can push with vps no big deal, you should think about dedicated only when ur average traffic goes beyond 250Mbps / 300Mbps.
Approx 250users for 720p @2000kbps + 128kbps audio.
& always convert the files before uploading hd, dont upload raw files, they will be mostly 4500kbps if u take tors hd.

what is that for?
What if the videos are already encoded? and if not how will I do that? if there is a tutorial or something on how to set up a VPS for video streaming

you do not need to invest, if the videos are already in the bitrate range u need, use them as it is, just use mp4 or m3u8 & html5 streaming.
there is not special setup necessary, you just need to secure the video folder to only ur domains so others wont leech from u. ( just ask vps provider ). its easy it depends on engine ur using. apache or nginx.
for palyer u can use either of the below players, both of them are good & free.

jwplayer also is a good choice but u need to buy keys . ( im not selling ).

About rendering vps.
he means if you want to conver the files to 2000kbps u will need a separate windows vps or can do in normal vps. but if u are starting up u r better off converting in ur own pc.
but his idea of rendering vps is good, u can dl to vps fast & upload from the windows vps fast.

Thanks alot for explaining in all the details, I use wp-script and I think they run on top of fluid player, if I restrict the videos to play only on the website, people can still download it I guess because they need to load the files locally no?

you better ask the wp-script guys, they will be able to help u with it better than me cos they know what u r using better.
but no matter what u do, idm will take the file if u dont use encription methods, like mpd i think.

@SteveWhite covered what i meant. but to be honest, having 1 for the movies, 1 for encoding/rendering and one for backup, its not worth it unless your traffic is making you enough to cover them. personally, i wouldnt bother and just stick with what I, and most others do. use 2+ separate streaming/file hosts or even wp-script.
yes, they make money from their embedded ads(more than you do) but it just saves alot of crap
hell, if you wanting to go full automation, use Nuxt(google it) but it aint easy.

I would recommend you to search for a dedicated server instead, VPS is not good for streaming, because everything is shared like shared hosting but with root access lol,
You will find affordable dedicated servers in few more bucks or may be the same price of the vps with 500GB ssd.
It will be far more preferable option that i will suggest.
I would recommend you to use raid 1+0 if you can afford with ssd your speed will be 100x more.
