If you want secure, stay away from the popular ones like Nord and Express.
The more popular it gets, the more likely they are to work with the feds because they want to protect their business and it's easier to co-operate with police that come knocking than to protect customer data.

I'd agree with this, but if you're worried about the feds, no VPN will really help unless it's one you code yourself or have programmed exclusively for you by someone you trust. VPN is for privacy. VPN is not for anonymity.

Go with Cyberghost VPN. They keep no logs (confirmed in court twice), and so they do not work with the feds.

ExpressVPN is one to consider. They're based in British Virgin Islands with no data retention requirements. There it's perfectly legal for them to not keep logs. And they don't keep them apparently.
A few years back a high profile crime was committed in Turkey: a Russian ambassador was assassinated at a photo exhibition by a police officer and someone used ExpressVPN to delete evidence (social media posts and emails). The authorities traced the ip back to the VPN service, they seized the server, but they weren't able to find anything, because there were no logs.
