Best url structures for location pages.

Hey all,

I'm trying to setup a website where people can find local music teachers.

I will create a location page for every city in my country, and also for every type of instrument... e.g Piano Teacher, guitar teacher etc etc.

My question is, how should the domain be structured?

E.g domain.com/piano teacher/London.

Or

Domain.com/piano teacher/in/London

Or

Domain.com/london/piano teacher

The issue I'm struggling with is Google needs to be able to find all these pages, so on the home page there needs to be an Absolute bucket load of links, one batch for every instrument and one batch for all locations.

The home page will just look like a link directory. Which I'm guessing Google also doesn't like.

So I'm stuck on what to do.

I don't want to start all this then be doing thw wrong thing.

You need to ask yourself which type of queries make more sense for one level above:

Music teachers in London or Piano teachers in the UK.

if you go for:
domain.com/piano teacher/London
Then
domain.com/piano teacher will have to show piano teachers in the UK

While if you go for
Domain.com/london/piano teacher
Then
Domain.com/london
Will show music instructors in london

What do your competitors do?

Hi, thanks for the response, I guess the largest and we'll known competitor (50+ years old) does:
Domain.com/piano teacher/in/London

But, they may just have incredible history so they're domain structure doesn't need to be perfect.

Domain.com/london/piano teacher. seem more make sense to me.

I don't think it will make much difference to be fair.

The most common variant is domain.com/london/piano-teachers I would guess so you can easily go with this one.

Google will be smart enough to understand your content after some time no matter which variant you choose from above.

I think Domain.com/london/piano teacher looks good. Concentrate on producing good content value backlinks

make it convenient for site visitors, think about them first, then google will like it too
