Hey Guys I am wondering if we could start a thread listing the best SEO/LinkBuilding tools for Mac since I find most are for Windows.

I have looked and can't find a good list but if there is one apologies in advance.

I know but not everyone wants to run windows and surely there is a talented programmer out there who feels the same and has designed something for Mac.

Fair enough, so forgive my stupid question (I will research this myself) but what should I be looking for interms of the parallel setup?

Do you mean something like this? Parallels DesktopĀ® 6 for Mac

Is there a FREE option for this as I just can't bring myself to part $$ for anything windows related, SEO tools SURE! Windows NOPE!

Not really. There's a tiny percentage of the market that has mac versions, but all your major software will require you to have access to Windows. Whether it be via Parallels, Bootcamp, or a VPS/Dedicated, you're just going to have to suck it up and either do it or outsource it, sadly.

I love my mac and went through the same thing in the beginning, but you'll literally be crippling yourself if you limit your options to what is available for IMers on the mac. Too many of the heavy-hitters are Windows only.

I run Bootcamp for my Windows needs.

If you don't want to infect that much of your system with Windows, I'll go ahead and say that Mac software is some of the least secure out there (in terms of piracy prevention), and I'm sure you can "acquire" Parallels somewhere on the net. However, VirtualBox works very well and is a free alternative to Parallels. I like VB more, but it's less user friendly so use at your own risk. :p

VMWare fusion is MUCH better than parallels. I've used both. you can download a month free trial but you'll need a copy of XPpro or another OS.

Market Samurai is platform independent runs on adobe air. Good for kw research, competition analysis, etc. Not an end all be all but a good start.

Camtasia for mac: though it doesn't have all bells and whistles as the windows version does there are def work arounds you can use.

    Komposer - HTML Editor

Open office for word files spreadsheets and presentations

Just found this tho I have not tested it. Based off of WINE Windows Emulator called Wine Bottler - http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

    Virtual Box

Crossover - http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/ Not an aff link

    Hope that helps

I'm working on Mac and i got VPS with Windows and this is my solution. You just use RDC on mac and that's it. Also there is an RDC lite for iPad so you could manage VPS via this tool ;)

The full SEO Powersuite is available for Mac as well as PC and Linux. It runs in Java.

I use Ranktracker daily, fantastic tool, but their other tools are also excellent.

A tip for you for the real Mac experience whilst using Parallels: Switch Parallels to Coherence mode, which makes the Windoze window disappear, shows your Windows apps such as Scrapebox, XRumer, SENuke or whatever else you're using in the dock, plus within Parallels there is a way to make is look a lot more 'Mac' if you're into that type of thing, ie. it adds the three rounded buttons at the top, makes it more 'grey/silvery'. It's a good idea if you're using Windows on a Mac, but just don't want to admit it, even to yourself. I don't personally, but I know a few that do.

Software: As others mention, Adobe Air is your friend so Market Samurai is there. Not sure of any others currently.

dude, i dont recommend you using any silly virtual machine software to run windows. It'll slow down your mac if you also run several programs on your mac os x altogether with those SEO tools from your virtual machine.

Better to use bootcamp and switch to windows when you want to use those SEO tools and switch back to mac when you are not using them. If you have iMac and macbook, you can run seo software on your imac (via bootcamp) and at the same time you use your macbook for the other things.

you can run some tools with wine, though i would not reccomend it, cause incompatability is a bitch :p but for some tools its usable.

I personaly have a dedicated computer that runs ESXi (from vmware) and on that machine i have hundreds of windows VM's that do my windows bidding. but i try to use mac programs where i can, about the only app i use thats windows only is xrumer, and i use that on a hosted dedi.

Try to stick to mac tools :) i have not found a good reason to stay in a vm for more than 10 mins :p

agreed runs nice on the mac :)

forget camtasia, use ScreenFlow, its much better ;)

i use TextMate, and if i gota use something with predictive typing etc i use Zend (the one based on eclipse) none of those are drag drop html, since i personally hate that crap :p but if u really do need to use that stuff there is heaps for mac.

ms office for mac is fine if you want to bother with it

Used it and its not much better than just installing wine through ports, but does make it easier. it wont run much in the way of seo software though.

RUN from this one, its payware version of wine/winebottler that added some directX support etc. If the app u want doesnt run on wine then just use a vm or duel boot. vmware/parallels will slow you down quite a bit, and if your using software thats intensive on the cpu etc you wont get the performance you get from using bootcamp.

Hmm, that the real fact. Mac is always helpless from open source softwares. Mac uses software only developed by apple itself.

    Thats very rude, huh.
