Best TLD after .COM...

Hi folks,

would like to hear your opinion.

What's the best TLD (.org, .net etc) after .COM?

If the .com is already registered, what TLD do you go for (assuming all the other all available)

I would go for .net

I think it really depends on the niche and the type of website your planning to set up. For any type of informational authoritive type site a .org can lend a little credibility to the site. For any type of networking type site, marketing, social, etc. then probably a .net would seem more authoritive.

The choice is really more about credibility in the minds of actual visitors. As far as SEO is concerned there isn't much difference (if any) between .com .net or .org, in fact there probably isn't even much difference (if any) for any of the global tlds including .info, .biz, etc. after a theoretically possible initial shakedown to make sure it isn't a blatant spam site.

I agree with the above post but I generally prefer a .org (.net, .info and all the others have a spamy feel to me).

.org is my second fav, actually depending on the type of site, I would get a .org over a .com

agreeed. a .org would work for an information site. I dont think itd work for a commerce site selling toys or something though.

.net or .org have no difference for me. But if they are both available, I always go for the .net version just because .net is cheaper than .org in Internet.bs.

Depending on the niche, .com is usually followed by .net and .org

I'd take the .org and then maybe .net or .info it doesn't matter for me at that point

alot of "know it all's" will say no, but try it out for yourself and see the difference... There is a reason .orgs cost more and hardly ever go on sale, Google loves them... Most of the highest authority sites are .orgs...

Maybe I'm one of them there "know it all's"!! LOL. 'Cause in my experience I've never experienced the effect of a .org starting out any better in the serp than a dot com, many time's I've purchased both the .com and .org for a domain and not seen a difference.

I've also never paid more for a .org than a .com, and never had a problem with the .org being available unless it was because someone else had chosen the same name before me. Usually in that case the .com version of the site was also unavailable. Usually any site I put on line gets indexed within an hour or two. I've never experienced any site regardless of the tld hit the first couple pages without any seo unless it was for some really uncompetetive term that doesn't matter. I've really never seen any dramatic difference from an seo standpoint between the .com or .org, but maybe I've just been unlucky.

With these type of questions you'll always find many people with varying experiences, so it's hard to really make an seo determination on it. That's why I usually make the determination based on how I think it might affect the mindset of human visitors to the site. After you've chosen the site any advantage one global tld might possibly have over another for seo purposes will be short lived. Once you start working on site promotion and seo, those factors will soon outweigh whatever initial advantage (if any) the tld might have had.

@OP, the bottom line is what Cock Zilla said: the best thing to do is try it yourself and see if you get any kind of better results with one over another.
