I too use sticky notes. It is good and most of the people use it coz of its east to use feature.

Basecamp or asana are both great choices, that said i use freelance manager for client billing -- does a decent job, but its on my server. Makes it easy if I am at a clients or on another computer and was only 35 bucks.

Sticky Notes. Light and useful

If you want quick way to take notes, reminders etc then Sticky Notes is good as blackhatboss9 and others suggested. Sticky Notes is a built in app Windows Vista/7/8. However it doesn't support reminders etc. I am using a sticky notes app called Notezilla. It supports reminders, tagging, folders and other organizing capabilities. Google for Notezilla.

Basecamp will do the job and pretty affordable. Need a good notebook to take notes. Tablet and ipad maybe good but only if you're using free hand drawing software to capture more information. If you only type when take notes, you will for sure miss some information.

I always write short notes on paper and paste it on my monitor. Best than any software.

Maybe this is too simple but try use the Sticky Notes program that comes with windows. I used to manage my time like that and found it pretty convenient.
Check stock - 30 mins
Make coffee - 5 mins
Phone clients - 1.5 hours
Fap - 1 hour
etc
33% of your time is spent fapping. You could be making more money there buddy
