Not quite sure what you mean by "best thumbnail size" here. It's 1280 x 720 pixels, 16:9 as usual. For more adult-leaning content, instead of the resolution, I'd recommend focusing on the style, substance, and how you crop the image for the thumbnail instead. Gotta skirt around YT's restrictions with what you can show exactly. Don't get me wrong, I've seen people get way with some stranger choices but you'd best not take unnecessary chances like that.

Oh, okay. You'll have to stick to the 16:9 aspect ratio to prevent the image from stretching. Usually for portrait images like that, you could put it on a corner and have other effects take up the bulk of the thumbnail, or you could centre it and leave the negative space just blacked out or put whatever other text or elements you want on there.
