I've used Generatepress for a long time, and yes it's the best one I must say.
Other options Astra and Schema.

GeneratePress is pretty fast. However, hosting with a good CDN will affect more the loading times to visitors from all over the world.

The theme you use is only one of the factors that will affect the speed of your site. Many other factors will affect it. I use the ReHub theme, specifically Re-Cart. It is well optimized for speed with an in-built AMP. But again, it depends on the functions you want on your site. You can strip it down by reducing JavaScript if you just want it to be an informational website. Look at the Acabado theme from income school. Suitable for information-based sites.

Its pretty fast and you get some really good google pagespeed score right out of the box. But I feel its pretty limited in terms of templates and pre-built elements. However if you know your way around html, css and javascript its definitely worth the investment.
