I'm aware of 3d Max and Autodesk Maya, but they have a steep learning curve, and I'm looking to create extremely simple 3d videos. The ideal would be something not only easy to use, but also compatible with most of the free 3d character/background template available around the net.

Any ideas?

I worked with 3D Max on windows and Cinema 4D on mac. 3D Animation always takes a lot of time. Maybe try Maya or Blender.

Cinema 4d is the easiest to get into and there are some good tutorials on YouTube. My opinion.

Creating 3D Animation takes lot of our time.
There is no simple way to animate a 3D character. You need to learn the software first.
If you are thorough with 1 Software for example, MAYA, you can work with any 3D Software.
Any 3D character to be rigged before animating, like adding joints, skinning etc etc.
Not an easy job. Im a Rigger and i know how tough it is.

You can get Element 3D for After Effects if you want :)
