SEO is the best skill to learn, you can either use it for yourself or client.
I believe pure coding is great if you want to be able to control your project, but you'll always be beaten by cheap indian coders.

Instead of coding, I would say mastering English would streamline and seamlessly take you to the next level in your activities.

It allows promotion to be done more professionally with ease and allows you to outsmart competitors as well as write sales copy as noted above and better spintax / eBook documents.

The willingness to learn something new everyday.

Best skill to learn without any investment would be open a free blog and try and sell something from it, like clickbank, then try and get free traffic to it.
Like that meathead method "easy $100 per day perfect for nooobs", except I couldn't get success with it.

Getting people to believe the shit you write is a good skill to learn, especially if the shit you write is a load of bollocks.

im a fan of the t-shaped marketer model, master one skill in depth such as SEO, but know about all the nearby disciplines such as coding, UX, etc
