Best SEO method for a new startup Amazon niche site?

Hi guys, I'm starting my own site after researching keywords for a bit, found one with "moderate competition" with only 1 competitor optimizing the site for that KW with an irrevelant domain name nowhere near to the niche and poor backlinks, around 80 and not relevant to the niche aswell.

I have an exact match domain .net and thinking of using wordpress and hosting with godaddy; I've written articles for people before and designed their sites and now plan to make my own. I'm not VERY knowledgeable in SEO or linkbuilding but I know some techniques like the tiered link building, scrapebox blasting and so on.

Which methods will work best to rank a 3500 monthly volume EMD amazon site for 2014? The last time i've done it was before my highschool in 2012 so I suppose things have changed quite a bit.

Initially start building some diversified links to your raw url, brand names, generic terms. After getting your backlinks indexed then go for PBN links to your main keywords for quick rankings. Suppose if you need safe links then build Tier1 links from Web2.0s and then in Tier2 add blog posts and other links.

What I seen work very well is EMD + very detailed content covering every single aspect of the topic. This is supposed to get you out of "low quality EMD" filter in order to unleash to full power of EMD. Add couple of quality links and you can get robust head term rankings + lots of long tail due to the long content.

Protip: Add a table of contents with anchor links to the subheadings and you can achive the "jump to" links wikipedia has, for more ctr and more rankings with the same page.
