its going to take years to crack. not worth the effort. rather buy the program.

Presently, There are several RAR password recovery tools are proved useful for users to retrieve lost RAR password. I have just used RAR Password Decryption. It supports three attack tyoes: brute-force attack, brute force with mask and dictionary attack which can restrict the search area and shorten the recovery time. Following steps are a simple guide to remove RAR password.
Step 1: Download and install RAR Password Decryption(It is small about 3.5M)
Step 2: Run the program, and click Open to import your locked RAR file
Step 3: Select a attack type that you still remember the type of your password, and then click Start to recover RAR password
Share it to you, hope it can help you solve the problem.

rar password cracker always crashes with the 'internal consistency error' message.

any idea how to fix that ?

Not worth it really, with the time you are gonna spend on it. Just buy the license.

.rar recovery magic works for me. Though it takes some time. But it worked.

alright guys, I'm new here, first post. sorry if I'm "necroing" this thread. but the best program I've used to crack password protected rar files is cRARk. its an open source program for windows and linux. it utilizes the GPU so anyone with a half decent GPU can do about 5000 p/s. it works well for brute forcing things quickly, but also supports custom dictionary's, it would be pretty handy to have just one large dictionary file with every word from every language... although there's always those nuts who make 25 character random generated passwords.

Yeah.. wouldn't help so well with a password more than a few characters, which if only ascii letters a decent size password is what, 26^8?, and that's without mixed case or numbers!, you're not brute forcing that anytime soon, considering the fact that the check on RAR's if i'm not mistaken takes 1M rounds of MD5, which takes a while by itself (enough to make any decent brute force unfeasable), 5000 p/s a sec isn't really helpful when you have 200B combinations.

You's know that this thread was made in 2010.. right?

It didn't make more sense back then than it does now, was hoping to clarify since there is a lot of nonsense going on in here.
