I like them both. You're not locked into Microsoft or Apple, and they're really productve.

I'm sorry, but this is definitely not a reason to claim an obscure language is the best programming language. More importantly, this question has no answer. It depends on what you're trying to do.

I would recommend javascript for pretty much anything web related nowadays using the mean stack.

If you're looking for the best programming language, you should build your own language so that it fits you perfectly because other languages try to please as many people as possible. By making your own language, you can please only yourself and it's truly gonna be the best language ever, at least for you.

C# for sure. Don't listen to people which tell you is only for desktop because its wrong.
C# became cross platform from a long time. Using libraries or not... is cross platform. At this moment along with python and java, is the most wanted and popular programming language when is about to software development.

C SHARP is my answer!

First learn this language -> Then learn this language

Back End Web Developer i.e. Client Side

Code:

HTML -> HTML5
CSS -> CSS3 -> SASS, PASS
Javascript -> Angular js, Grunt js,  embers js etc.

Front End Web Developer i.e. Server side

Code:

PHP - Codeigniter, laravel etc PHP framework 
MySQL - MongoDB - Hadoop etc  Big data solution.
JavaScript - Some Javascript like node.js and Go programming also help too much in server side.

All above list is programming language except HTML, CSS and MySQL, and here is few more.

Code:

C - C sharp
VB net - ASP net - C sharp
Python 
Ruby and Rails 
Java - Most necessary for Android Developer
Apple Swift
