Best programming language for Android app automation?

What language is best for automating an Android app? Basically a bot..

Edit: not just automating repetitive tasks, but checking certain things (if user is online) and auto replying to messages... What language is best for this?

Im interested in this as well, I would imagine something like selenium for webbrowser automation but for android operating system.

selenium is the worst thing ever you could imagine when it comes to scaling and it's only for few critical tests that needs to be run in real chrome other than that it's pretty worthless
