Best Practices for CTR Manipulation

I am planning to set it up myself through residential proxy. Problem is my nich have very high competition, and I noticed that some competitors sending millions of traffic to their network of websites and achievement already good spot on G. To mimic their strategy I will have to end up buying high numbers of proxies, which is not affordable for me. What I assume is that they might be doing some other kind of traffic manipulation works, which I am trying to find it out.
