I don't mean to be the one to break this to you but YouTube's algorithm has changed where subscribers really don't mean all that much nowadays.
I've seen viral videos (I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of views) and the channel that produced that video barely has 500 subscribers, if that.
What's going on?
Well, all of this highlights the fact that YouTube is paying more attention to a video's engagement levels.
I'm talking about likes, views, and comments as well as shares.
When you put everything together, the subscriber count doesn't really count for much.
Instead, you should focus on how engaging your videos are as well as other engagement metrics.
With that said, I'm not saying that subscriber count is completely worthless.
There comes a point where it can offer some sort of social proof.
But when it comes down to it, your main focus should be on boosting the views a specific video has because when people see that view count, they're more likely to click play.
Think of it this way.
If you come up with a video that is the best in the world in your niche but it has zero view count, even your most targeted audience members would not bother to watch that video.
Why?
They do not know what they'll be getting.
It's like walking into an empty restaurant.
You don't know if the food is good.
If there is some sort of social proof or social indication that this content is worth people's time and effort, they would click that play button.
Do you see the chicken-and-egg problem here?
So focus instead on engagement.
Focus on social proof.
And the subscriber count will take care of itself.
