Article writing is the worst paid form form of writing I have seen.

Direct response copywriting has the greatest potential but the steepest learning curve.

Resume writing is the best paying with easiest entry into the business. Resumes start at $100. If you are doing it for a client you get all of it. If you are doing it for a resume mill you get 1/3 to 1/2 of it.

The AWAI resume writing business course is worth reading but not worth buying. All you need is a book titled RESUME MAGIC. It is huge and covers everything. You can get a used copy for a couple of bucks.

The catch is that you will have to have outstanding grammar skills, not good but fantastic.

Good luck with it.

You are absolutely right when you say " Article writing is the worst paid form form of writing I have seen. " Copywriting no doubt can fetch writers with money which they can only dream when writing generic articles.

You would be surprised at how much you can make with article writing. It depends on who your clients are and what you can do. You wont make very much if your business comes from here and the digitalpoint type forums. I probably make more with article writing than most (certainly not everyone) people here. I do not mean that unkindly.

I will write a tutorial on how to make article writing into a full time living when I have more time.

Certainly when you start out in article writing, the money can be pretty awful. I've heard some horror stories of writers starting out writing ten 100-word articles for $1, and I'm sure some have done it for less. Part of the problem is that clients who aren't all that bothered about quality of work will take the lowest bid on a freelancer site, regardless of the standard of written English.

Once you demonstrate a high level of competence in article writing though, you can push for more money, and repeat business can be pretty lucrative. Building a good working relationship with a client is important. If you become someone's "go-to" guy (or gal), then you can get some pretty decent projects to work on. I would say the major issue with article writing for a living is that it really depends on demand. If work dries up, then so does money.
