Which offshore hosting sites would you recommend and why go offshore in the first place?

You go offshore for different reasons. Mainly to keep from getting your site taken down. Different countries abide by different laws.

I like my host (banner). It's cheap and offshore. Tech support is great for morons like me. Cheers!

You can research at webhosting forum. But, quick response from webhoster is important for me, the price is second..

is it ok to host a movie site there ??

where movies are embedded from third party tube sites ??

P.S their TOS and Privacy policy seems to be waaaayyy strict for an offshore host.

we have one server with webazilla for 3 years now and its pretty stable..netherlands location!

If you can manage the server yourself get a box from worldstream.nl and run wild - they have some specials like $35/month for a e6600

If you go shared offshore you'd have to consider the downtime associated with being in the same place with a lot of blackhatters - I do prefer the downtime associated with something screwed up by me

Your call though based on your linux experience
