best method to showcase your web designs ?

hello guys,

i'm starting a new web design journey and currently building my own site in which i'll include a bio and a portfolio of some sites that i can make, but i don't know what is the best method to put these websites in my portfolio site.. i'm thinking about building them and host them on free hosting then link them with some preview images on my site so the visitor can click on the image and browse this entire site anyways, is there a more simple method or something ? how do you showcase your previous works to your future clients ?
