Best match depends on sold quantity?

I have noticed somebody with a BIN listing selling 10 pieces of 1 product. Now he has sold 5 of them, and in best match search results his listing now is shown on first page as 3rd item.

When he started the listing, it was also shown on first page, however, at the bottom (about 3rd or 4th last from bottom).

So if you have a BIN listing with more then 1 piece to sell, it will rank higher in search results the more have been sold of it?

I have no idea if it is like that, but if it is, then its usefull information.

I spoke to one about this question exactly, he helped me move my rankings from 8th to 4th. It's basically down to a number of things; your title, your feedback, your subtitle, previous sales of the item and your description (I have found).

Ok, and how should you write title and description to get high rank.

yes this is definitely the case. I checked this out now: When he starts his listing, it is shown on position 50 only (of 58).
However, after about 12 hours he sold one (out of 6), and his listing went up to position 40 (of still 58).
Then the next time when I watched, about another 10-12 hours later, all his items have been sold.

But eBay is really a pain in the ass. I listed something there (BIN), and despite my price being lower than the one of a competitor, he sold 8 out of 10 (within 10 days), whereas I did not sell even one (within 5 days).

So even having a lower or even having lowest price does not lead to sales, they buy from another one with higher price. And there were only about 10 listings for this item, so I was also on page 1.

If eBay continues to work like that, I will stop selling there. It is really a waste of time.

Correct, one of the ways ebay determines best match placing is your conversion rate calculated by:
(Number of conversions (sales within x time) / Number of impressions) * 100

In other words, including "spammy" keywords in your title for a fixed price listing can actually hurt your best match results...

But conversion is only one variable in the best match algorithm... they take a lot of other things into consideration

I see no system behind this "best match" thing .....

I am selling a product, there are 58 similar items. I sold 2 out of 5, went from pos 55 to pos 30 now .....
However, other seller with similiar product/price also sold 2 out of 6, went up to pos 2 (!!!!) now .... and he is no top-rated seller, power seller etc., just the same seller like me, just with a bit higher feedback ....

What to do on position 30? My price is lower than of some sellers higher listed above .... but who looks down to position 30 just to save some $?

Wtf is going on with eBay?
I was on position 40, now went DOWN on 50 ....
Other seller went up from 56 to 10 (!) within 8 hours .....
Low feedback private seller now placed directly under top rated seller
I am on page 2 again ......
He has 24 views, I have 50 views ....
so the more views and the more interest, the lower the position on search results page?

I contacted customer help .... all they did was sending me an email with a copy-paste of their help pages .....yeah, very big help
